With the multi-billion dollar
bailout of banks and the White House's plans to reform public services, socialism was a buzzword in the US in 2009. Yet many are undecided whether Barack Obama is really socialist-oriented.

Obama was the most left-leaning senator leading up to the presidential election.

Gov't ownership and control of banks and automakers fits within this. Allows him to control who gets the money (versus freemarket)

It is what it is. His views were not any secret when he began campaigning and people still voted for him. I can only assume this means the majority agree with his approach.

Obama is a socialist, and he's not in disguise, what part of "spread the wealth" do people not understand ??

Everyone I know that voted for that buffoon knows nothing about him or socialism/politics, they voted for him because of the color of his skin, nothing more.

Whats the difference between someone who wont vote him because of his skin color and those who voted for him because of his skin color ??
Not a damn thing.

What a shame.

Socialism, communism, fascism. Whatever, it all leads to tyranny.

You've nailed it.

Look at history. Socialism, communism, fascism, imperialism, colonialism. All of it nicely wraps up under one label as totalitarianism, the supremacy of the state as a collective over the individual.

IMO we NEED Socialism. The world needs to leave capitalism behind and embrace Socialism.
Unfortunately too many people do not understand what Socialism is and immediately think of Nazi Germany or Communist Russia for some reason.

Socialism is many different things to different people, even amongst academics. Historically, those who have risen to power under Socialism have little regard or care for what Socialism means, that's why the National Socialist, Fascist and Communist horrors spring to most peoples minds when they hear the word. I expect you're talking about true Socialism as it appears in theory, which aiming for a more benevolent and equal society.

Personally, I don't think we need any more *.ism's or *.archy's, the same people who fund and push any ism use it to screw the majority for the benefit of the few, however well meaning the ism is in theory. I'd be happy with Freedom Under Common Law that allows any individual to be benevolent if they so choose, but does not stand for the reverse.

You may be right and Socialism in its' theoretical form is a way to get to Freedom and Common Law. Hell of a risk though IMHO.
