The UK's largest church organ with an amazing 9765 pipes> The highest and widest gothic arches in the world
> The highest and heaviest peel of bells in the world
> Designed by Giles Gilbert Scott - who most famously designed the red telephone box
When visitors step through the door of Liverpool Cathedral, most people do two things - they lift their heads and say "wow!"

Not only that it looks evil, but also has a lot of symbolism.

.............
Yes it does look strange. the most obvious symbolism being the black and white floor ( masonic ) I've never been inside but walked around the grounds, unusual energies/vibes for sure, but not all bad vibes. The building is less than a 100 years old I think, so have no idea what used to be there, imagine it has some leylines or something of importance.
China Town ( Chinese quarter)is real close to it, which is kind of strange, maybe that existed before the cathedral. On another side is Granby Street which was the scene of much race riots ( by blacks) Not far from there... A road that runs parallel to the cathedral is well known for prostitution, much pimping and drugs. This must be to hold down the earth's vibrational field. It seems to be surrounded by many bad things

The catholics built this cathedral just down the road from the other one
http://www.collectionspicturelibrary.com/12-mb-26f-2.jpg The school took us here a few times, I was too young to remember much except it's an amazing scene on the inside.

Protestors carry a coffin from the cathedral. Up to a 1000
later heckled and jeered US secretary of state Condoleeza Rice and British foreign secretary Jack Straw as they arrived
at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall to heckles and shouts

After 25 years, Victim, No Resurrection (archival info (http://terryduffy.info/1980s/vessel/no_res_pic.htm)) is back in Liverpool for the 2007 and 2008 celebrations of the city as The Capital of Culture. Exhibited at Liverpool Cathedral for the first time, the work was produced in aftermath of the 1981 riots. After 25 years, it is easy to forget just how disturbing this period was nationally, how desperate things were in Liverpool and how much things have changed.
Terry Duffy was a leading light in the 80's Liverpool "avant-garde" and as a result of this painting received the Arts Council Major Fellowship Award and produced the "Victim Series".
Victim, No Resurrection went on tour to various major galleries in this country and then to New York, where it was shown at the Cathedral in Harlem. The painting has only recently been returned to the UK and has a new timber stretcher made for its hanging at the Cathedral. The original stretcher, now lost, was made from reclaimed timber, ironically, made from the timber of a church burned down during the Riots.
Acrylic and enamel painting on canvas, 14ft high/ 11ft wide
Very strange painting for inside a cathedral
I took these last year as you can see by the date on the second photo
Sign of the times, I guess

Wasn't the architect only 21 when he won a competition to design the cathedral and he died before it was finished ?

No lol I took them all in Liverpool Cathedral, telephone box and all. yeah in the painting there are drug deals going down and prostitution etc.
The story that I was told was that he died before it was finished and was buried at the front. They miscalculated the dimensions and he is actually buried under the entrance. I was kinda over cathedrals and castles by then and was not really paying full attention but that is what I think the guide said.
I kicked around London by myself for a week or so but did a tour of Scotland, Wales and the rest of England. I was on my own and thought it was the best way to see around and then next time I could do my own thing :) It was good, a great fun crowd.

That's a beautiful building.
It's bound to be full of symbolism, many cathedrals are. The ones in France are more interesting because they've never had a reformation, more of the original decor has survived. Check out Poitiers Cathedral: http://infopuq.uquebec.ca/~uss1010/orgues/france/poitierscsp1.jpg

St Peter's Basillica in Rome is too big to be considered a cathedral apparently but it is the worlds biggest religious structure
