Anyone got any interesting thoughts/new takes on Linklater's film 'Waking Life'?

For those who haven't seen it it's a film about a man stuck in a dreamworld he can't escape from. It was shot on film, and then the frames painted over, so it ends up as animation. Visually stunning, and very thought-provoking. I think most people here would like it.

Only thing I remember... is that I couldn't ever make it through the whole thing.

When I first saw "A Scanner Darkly", I had to take it in two. Its quite a bit depressing and far out I guess. Quite brilliant :)

I havent seen this one yet, but is it anything like a Scanner Darkly in atmosphere? It does sound interresting. I remember having dreams where I found out that I was dreaming, and thought I might as well wake up. Trying to wake up from a dream isnt easy though. I remember having wierd dreams take a turn for the even stranger. Like everyone of the freaky characters in the dream trying to help me wake up :p Other times I turned it into a lucid dream instead, but beating your subconciousness isnt always easy. There are bound to happen stuff that you might just expect to happen in the dream, and therefore it does. Other times strange things happen, just to make the dream feel like something that is not just something that is made by me. I do not believe all dreams only comes from the subconcious, but if you get in control yourself, it is either astral or lucid I think. Lucid can be entirely your own "design" as far as I know.

No, it's not really similar in atmosphere. Even the animation is noticeably different. Scanner is a lot more polished.

Waking Life is made up of what are sketches really - some lasting ten minutes, some ten seconds, and each one is there to make you think. Lucid dreaming which you mention is a key feature of the movie.

Sounds interesting. I guess I will try to see if I can find it somewhere. I will probably just pirate hack steal it like I always do, then decide wether I might actually want to pay for it later :p

Not much Internet for me these next two weeks though... Im borrowing my parents today, but only my cell phone for Internet in my new apartment.

I really enjoyed this movie too. Seen it a couple of times now.
I would also recommend it, although the last forum I posted on about this movie someone was very negative about it. Ah well....
