Report: Bin Laden Daughter Escapes Captors

Has Been Held in Tehran with 5 Brothers for 8 Years

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/12/23/world/main6014399.shtml

(CBS/ AP) A Saudi-owned newspaper says that one of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden's daughters has taken refuge in the Saudi Embassy in Tehran after eluding guards who have held her and five brothers under house arrest for eight years.

It has long been believed that Iran has held in custody a number of bin Laden's children since they fled Afghanistan following the U.S.-led invasion of that country in 2001 - most notably Saad and Hamza bin Laden, who are thought to have held positions in al Qaeda.

Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper says the 17-year-old daughter, Eman, slipped away from guards and fled to the Saudi Embassy. The report quotes the embassy's charge d'affaires confirming she is there.

Iranian and Saudi officials would not immediately comment.

Bin Laden's fourth oldest sonOmar Osama bin Laden, 29, told The Times pf London he did not know his family was alive until they called him in November. He lives in Qatar with his wife, Zaina.

Report: Missing Bin Laden Family Found in Iran

The family told him they had fled to Iran from Afghanistan before the 9/11 attacks and were kept in the compound "for their own safety." The children were Saad, 20 at the time, Ossman 17, Muhammad 15, Fatma 14, Hamza 12, Iman 9, and Bakr, 7.

Speculations have arisen before that Muhammad was the second in command of al Qaeda and that Saad had helped plan and execute terrorist attacks until he was killed by an American drone bombing about 18 months ago. But the bin Laden family says Muhammad is still living in the compound and that Saad ran away less than a year ago.

"They are all just innocent victims, just the same as anyone else hurt by the dreadful events of 9/11 and 7/7. These babies and children have never had any education, never hurt a single soul, never trained with any weapons or ever been part of al-Qaeda," bin Laden told the paper. "We just want to be together as a family."

This reminds me of the Bush administration linking Iraq to 9/11.

Osama bin Ladens missing family found in secret compound in Iran.

Remember this:
All airlines in the United States were grounded for two days after 9/11. Yet, on September 13, 2001,
the White House authorized six Saudi jets to fly bin Laden family members from America to Saudi Arabia.
The members of the bin Laden family were never questioned by United States authorities.

Osama bin Laden's family missing since 9/11 attacks found living in secret compound in Iran

Eight years of uncertainty over the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden's closest family members has been blown open by a relative's admission that they are living in a secret compound in Iran.

One of the terror mastermind's wives, six of his children and 11 of his grandchildren are living in a high-security compound outside Tehran.

It exposes as false the repeated denials by the country's government that members of the family were living in Iran.

Omar Ossama bin Laden, the fourth-eldest of Osama's sons, claims he was unaware of his brothers and sisters' location, or even whether they were still alive, until they phoned him in November.

He told the Times that he wants the group to be allowed to leave Iran, claiming they are the 'forgotten victims of 9/11'.

The 29-year-old said they told him they fled Afghanistan just before the September 11 attacks, walking to the Iran border. They were then taken to the compound, where guards told them they could not leave 'for their own safety'.

Omar's siblings Saad, Ossman, Muhammad, Fatma, Hamza, Iman and Bakr - aged between 20 and seven at the time - were among the group.

There had been reports that Saad and Muhammad had engaged in terrorism before being killed, but relatives say Muhammad remains safe in the compound and Saad lived there until a year ago, when he ran away to try to find his mother.

A week after contacting Omar, Iman escaped during a rare outing and sought asylum in the Saudi Arabian embassy while she seeks permission to leave Iran.

Mr bin Laden said the group, who were joined by other Afghan families in the compound, lived as normal a life as possible, and some had married other residents of the makeshift community and had babies.

He said: 'The Iranian Government did not know what to do with this large group of people that nobody else wanted, so they just kept them safe.

'For that we owe them much gratitude and thank them from the depth of our heart.'

Mr bin Laden wants his family to be given permission to join his mother and other siblings in Syria or he and his wife in Qatar.

The shocking truth about Osama bin Laden: apparently, he reads our blogs
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1568/is_1_38/ai_n16439686/ WHEN AL JAZEERA broadcast Osama bin Laden's latest audiotape in January, it provoked the same sense of deja vu as Messages to the World: The Statements of Osama bin Laden, recently published by the leftist publishing house Verso.
The book is a collection of every public utterance made by the Al Qaeda leader from 1994 to 2004. According to The Observer's excitable reviewer, it shows that he is a "charismatic man of action, an eloquent preacher, a teacher of literature and a resilient, cunning, wonderfully briefed politician." To me, however, there was something irritatingly familiar rather than surprisingly eloquent about his tone and turns of phrase.
Then it struck me: Bin Laden is a blogger. Not literally, of course, but he certainly speaks the language of the blogosphere. He references Robert Fisk and Michael Moore, those darlings of the anti-warWeb. His latest statement recommends that people read Rogue State by William Blum, whose e-mail newsletter, Anti-Empire Report, is frequently republished and discussed in the left-wing blogosphere. Bin Laden repeats criticisms of Bush and conspiracy theories about 9/11 that I have read a thousand times on a thousand blogs.
It is often said that the blogging explosion was a by-product of the September II attacks, as people launched online diaries to try to make sense of those shocking events. Here's a thought: Perhaps bin Laden himself turned to the blogosphere after 9/11, in search of theories and arguments with which he might justify his murderous assault.

The impenetrable jungle of Osama bin Laden's family tree
A family tree is hardly the best description of the bin Ladens’ genealogy. It is more like an impenetrable jungle.
Mohammed bin Laden, Osama’s father and the family patriarch, has about 600 descendants. There are so many children by so many wives that they are almost impossible to count. They include respectable businessmen, terrorists, a motorcycling champion and an American-born singer and socialite. They live on at least three continents — 23 were flown out of the United States soon after 9/11. Some love and others loathe the West. Most renounced their infamous relative long ago, but a few remain loyal.
Mohammed bin Laden was an illiterate bricklayer from Yemen who emigrated to Saudi Arabia, won favour with the royal family and was rewarded with vast and lucrative contracts to renovate the holy cities of Mecca and Medina, build highways and construct mosques. The bin Ladens prospered mightily and were dubbed the Rockefellers of the Middle East.
When he was not making money, Mohammed multiplied. He had as many as 22 wives, and by the time of his death in 1967, he had fathered 54 children — give or take a few.
Osama was the 17th of those children by Mohammed’s tenth wife, but to complicate matters his parents divorced soon after he was born and his mother had four more children by another husband.
When it comes to reproduction, Osama is a chip off the old block. He married his first wife, Najwa Ghanem, when he was 17 and had 11 children by her. His itinerant lifestyle nothwithstanding, he is now thought to have fathered somewhere between 19 and 24 children by five wives. He had to divorce Najwa because the Koran permits a maximum of four. His last wife is younger than his five oldest children.
Of Osama's children the oldest, Abdallah, who is in his early 30s, runs a company called Fame Advertising in Jeddah but is viewed with some suspicion by the Saudi authorities. Until now the third son, Saad, who was implicated in bombings in Morocco, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia, was believed to have been killed in a US missile strike in Pakistan earlier this year. The sixth, Mohammed, allegedly his father's favourite, stays with him, and married the daughter of Muhammed Atef, al-Qaeda's military commander until he was killed in Afghanistan. A younger son, Hamza, who is about 18, is also said to be active in al-Qaeda. Of the others little is known.
Many of Osama’s many brothers still work for the Saudi Binladin Group, the family conglomerate, and remain close to the Saudi royals. His family disowned him after he started attacking the Saudi authorities — the source of their wealth — in 1994. That precludes some fractious family gatherings. Several brothers live in Europe. Another, Abdullah, has a Harvard law degree. Osama’s hundreds of nephew and nieces include a motorbike racer, Abdul Aziz bin Laden, and a glamorous, American-born model-cum-singer, Wafah Dufour. “Everyone relates me to that man and I have nothing to do with him,” she once complained.
