View Full Version : Any alternative ways to earn money?

There's no way in hell I am going to work in this country, so I need a few ideas on how to possibly get some money alternatively!

I can play guitar, bass, drums and sing pretty well, so I could bring my guitar into town and busk, although I wouldn't really like that at all, it's a possibility. But is there a way I can earn money through writing songs on the internet? Like for example, websites or small films? Because I'd prefer that too playing in the middle of a busy city...

Also, would anyone know of any ways to make money from the internet? Any schemes or stuff like that?

I'm planning on moving away soon, so need to save my coppers! :D

Thanks for any input!

:)

P.S. Robbing a bank not an option!

Yes but unless you have very good looks and know the right people you'll probably earn as much as the guy busking in the streets.

Also, would anyone know of any ways to make money from the internet? Any schemes or stuff like that?

No end of pyramid schemes out there, most will lose you more than you make as nobody falls for them anymore except those wanting to make some quick money.

P.S. Robbing a bank not an option!

Your chances of making money legaly without working are practicaly none unless your good at gambling.

I feel for you hun....its a toughie :(

Do you have weekend markets near where you live?

If so, why not make a product to sell?

I do yeah, but my current situation give me nothing to PRODUCE. I can't grow anything, nor make anything so I'm pretty much fucked. I'd love to work on a farm but the nearest one is mile away. Even at that, how do I get out there??

I think I just need to get real about it and probably get a shitty factory work job.

All I want to do is live in peace.

busking and teaching music privately is a very good idea!

It's very difficult getting entry into the industry of making music for movies because so very many people want to do it, but if you decide to try ALL THE BEST OF LUCK, you never know, it might be your music they're looking for :)

Yeah soglad, you could be a guitar teacher maybe. I think you just need to go on a short teaching course so that you are able to "teach" the stuff you know. Obviously you would need to come up with your own syllabus which could be fun :)

You can make money through websites advertising through "Google Adsense". If you are lucky you can make at least £100 per month or MORE. If you are not lucky you can make £50 in 3 months or more :(

If we lived near one another we could put our heads (and money) together and start a "business" so that we could live in peace and be happy. I am always trying to think up inventions.

Just remember that your living that you will make will be that of people workign to support the system. I am fine from people pulling out of the systme, but I don;t think we should rely on it, esp. on others for living. Damn capitialism.

Spread the truth via websites, and fund those websites via adsense, i am (although without support its failing) trying to make my living of nothing but the truth :) because the money doesnt matter anyway, it is only me earning the money to fight them in the first place, so now i do both :)

I've had a real urge to simplify over the last couple of years since I had to stop working. I've got rid of lots of my possessions save for the music I like and a few dvd's. It's amazing the crap we hold onto thinking we 'might' use it.

I'd love to just disappear and live in a tent or a treehouse. Just me and an acousitc guitar. Unfortunately, my slight complex over spiders and creepy crawlies inhibits this idea at the moment (I don't mind them just don't like them walking all over me). Also my complete lack of basic survival skills aside from a couple of knots doesn't help.

Should have paid more attention at scouts instead of worrying about fitting in...

Anyone got Ray Mears' phone number?

Maybe music teacher as someone already suggested?
Instead of a factory job, then maybe a job in a grocery store or a supermarket? I like jobs in a supermarket, since it mixes having stuff to do most of the day, and getting to help customers.

Maybe go selfemployed and make newspaper adds about you giving private lessons in music, using instruments or maybe teaching about truths? Enlightenment classes? I bet there are a few that would like to know how to become more aware?

Maybe go for making speeches like David Icke? Summarise all the stuff you know the most about from these forums, and make a presentation out of it :) And add some music to it all :D

Working at a factory could be a good way to think about other ways to earn money, while earning some savings. I was about to go for factory work after 12 months of job seeking, even though I have trading school + 1½ years of marketing economic education. Luckily I found a job as ISP tech supporter before that. I could have used the money from working at a factory on some more furniture, but I guess I will just have to do without that the first few months :o

Good luck with it :)

don't you folks dare give mr so glad prision jobs! we shouldent have them anyway people should be persuing greater things :)

I used to have a ebay buisness, then i realized it was regimenting me into yet another dollar prison, so i got out of it, i simply refuse to play by their prison rules.

So im a philosopher, and one day i hope to be a studier of extra terrestrial cultures but not yet hehe ;) gota wait to get beamed up *looks out the window and yells abduct me* but yes ... i just think you folks should realize bending your will to the prison is what they want you to do, so try very hard not to :)

What about teaching love of music to young kids.

How to play the guitar etc. Parents always looking for
good stuff that they can send their kids to.

Get a few cards printed out - put them in local shop windows,
and libaries and after a while if your're good - and kids really enjoy it-
customers will start coming to you.

Hi Sodlad, I am in the same boat mate.

It's guys like this with so much bloody talent that motivates me to keep going myself: street drumming - YouTube

But there is a plan in the making. E-commerce my friend. You need a website promoting your own work. It's so much easier to sell your music over the internet than to get noticed by the big companies.

I have a very good friend I've helped a bit in his quest to get his own music out there, his songs are based on his lifes' experiences. Like yourself, he plays many instruments, and plays them well. Anyway, I made a short demo of his album and turned it into a screen saver to put on his site promoting his album.

It's an executible, virus free. Once downloaded, run, install. It'll put a shortcut on yer desktop and set it as your current screensaver.

By the way, I have started on a music vid with Simon for track 3, look out for it in the demo, gonna be a big hit on the net when the vid is finished, ;)

Also, I really compressed the audio because it's a demo, the CD is top quality and rocks.

I'd be happy to put a little something like this together for you to help your promo for an album. And I'm sure we'll get some great footage the weekend you can use too;)

It's here if anyone wants to download it: http://www.dazp5.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Six%20Songs/six%20songs%20Installer.exe

I get a decent income of average £10 a day (all I need) by playing online poker an hour a day. I'm sure you could earn more with more time, you never lose if you play tight! :p

I sold stuff on ebay for a while before I moved out of the country. Basically I used to scour charity shops day in day out and buy things for literally pennies. Even if it was just a nice little ornament, piece of designer clothing, old records, jewelery or pretty much anything as long as it looks nice and is in good shape. Old computer games and consoles have come back big time over the last few years so it's always worth getting to some car boots to have a good look..

Hmmmm, I'm liking this guitar tuition idea more and more....I've been playing for 11 years acoustic and electric, I've been in a few bands so I know my shit. Hmmmm, I could print out a few card or posters and play the waiting game.

I can make up my own syllabus no problem. Just print out a load of shit! :D

People were talking about speaking the truth, or speaking like what David Icke does. First of all, I'm very shy, and have little words when talking to huge groups, although, I'm ok with a few people.

I actually DO have a blog and I'm considering putting ads on it. But I don't know how I can get money. What do I do?

http://www.whywork.org/about/faq/wageslave.html

Why work??

CLAWS is a nonprofit support group, as well as a resource clearinghouse providing access to books and other thought-provoking and inspirational materials. Our main purpose is to encourage people to value leisure, re-think the Puritan work ethic and its derivatives, and critically examine other work-related legacies of industrial capitalism.

Our group combines our energies and talents to encourage the spread of viable alternatives to wage slavery. If you absolutely adore your job and don't know what a wage slave is, congratulations - you're a rare bird, and this organization probably isn't for you. We seek to transform the way people think about jobs, work, and money in everyday life. We envision a new way of viewing "work". For some of us, it connotes struggle, drudgery, obligation. For others, it simply connotes use of energy toward a goal, whether financially remunerated or not.

Though we are focused on ideas and inspiration, our mission also involves fostering the development of practical ways - both individual and social/political - to create a satisfying, rich, and sustainable life outside of the capitalist, corporate-dominated, profit-driven, 40-hours-a-week job norm.

Topics on our e-mail discussion list include simple living, sustainable and self-sufficient living, office politics, part-time work, attitudes toward money, plans for financial independence, homesteading, resource sharing, cultural factors, feminism, social prejudice toward the unemployed, class and race issues, and so forth. Sometimes you'll find us ranting about the system here and there, but we want to focus on solutions rather than problems.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our goals are:

To help create and promote alternatives to the wage slavery mindset that makes many people feel trapped in jobs they dislike "because they need the money"
To function as a support group for people whose attitudes about jobs, work, and money make them feel alienated or marginalized
To be a resource clearinghouse for information about alternatives to full-time, remunerative corporate employment
To spread the message that liberation from the wage slavery mindset is within everyone's reach, and that it is an "inside job"; social and political solutions are definitely important, but ultimately are not enough
To provide a space for discussion, rants, support, ideas, and brainstorming, through our discussion list and Web site
To create a sense of community and join in the efforts of others with similar missions

Nice website...check it out.

How about giving meditation classes? you can advertise in your area?
get a space - that is hopefully free - if you put your feelers out
there you never know? you can start off on a donation basis
till you build up your confidence and experience etc.

then do the meditation to your own music and have your Cd
on sale - and they love your music so much they will all buy
a cd - and then their friends will want and so on and so on ...

I know you can do it! Like I said make a cd and I will buy it...
seriously...

You can do what I do and pirate material - when I first started years ago, it was fucking insane and I made a shitload of money; today, however, is not as productive as it was back then, due to all the competition and the internet, but I still make enough to get the bills paid.

If your planning on moving away soon and want to that badly, I'd say do any work you can, get yer cash together and get the hell outa there.

If moving away is so important then so is the money.
who cares how you earn it.

Yeah but I can't work. I'm not mentally able for it. I'm not ill or anything, I'm quite mentally sane and happy as I am. It's just I can't bring myself to do that and be happy. It kills me enough living here already without fucking working.

I've worked all my life and can't stand not doing it, makes me feel complete to know I'm doing something.........

So I have a hard time associating with your dilema.......

These days I have my own business and work part time in a restaurant.....

I sell various items mainly to do with improving one's health and items that are popular.....

Nothing feels better than having people tell me that a certain problem has dissapeared after using the products I sell......

The way of the merchant can be very rewarding......

You choose what to sell, when to work, and how to go about your business.....

And the best part of all is you're the BOSS......

Power to the peaceful.

I'm not saying I hate working, I'm saying I hate working in this country. It's fucking dismal and depressing. For one, you live in Australia, where you can actually SEE the Sun. Every day here in Dublin it is overcast and rainy. All the roads here are full of fucking cars making noise and there's very little parks I can go for peace and quiet.

Suicide is a national pastime.

I am going to Australia to work in about 2-3 months, I don't know, but I need some money to save up for it in the meantime.

Hi Soglad,

Maybe you could make up a 'flyer' and distribute it yourself, in a neighbourhood of your choice. You could say something like 'Out of work musician' requires odd jobs. eg. Garden tidy( weeding, leaves raked, edges done etc). lawns mowed only, with your mower (no removal of clippings), watering, etc etc

Depending on whether you wanted to:- hoovering, washing hung out, pets minded, etc etc you get the idea?

I would personally head for the posh areas, and mainly the areas (middle class) where both partners are out at work and need a hand around there place.

Saying you are a musician may alert someone to maybe contact you...who knows

You are not a factory type Dev, but occasionally people score the nicer type jobs at those places too.

I once walked around the local business area in Lower Hutt, just popping in and asking if there was work available, and that I was prepared to give most things a go...I scored a job as receptionist at a facility that cared for the disabled.

Anyway , good luck with it. You are a very friendly presentable person with intelligence....I reckon you won't have too many problems getting something.
Remember that if you 'cold turkey' your area for work, that the employers think it's great, because it saves on the cost of advertising for someone.

Dish washing in Large hotels is another option. Maybe you could just phone around the big Hotels in Dublin and ask if there's anything going
Good Luck!! Lemonique

1) gamble on the internet with low yields - £10 bet for £2 return. (bad karma tho).

2) work in hostels. job going here in one in tulum - hammocks in bohemien garden too.

3) get into the internetl "links" industry = 1p a click. i know some ppl who make £ from this.
