Professor Sir David King, the former government chief scientist, told BBC News there are three key issues:
how did the leakage occur - was there any payment in the process?
the alleged behaviour of the scientists indicated by the e-mails
does this have any impact on the scientific conclusion?
If an independent inquiry encompassed all three aspects, Professor Sir David said he would support it.

How is it relevant; 'how the details were released'?

It's a side issue.
Whether there is a whistleblower, or the files were hacked doesn't alter the science of AGW.
It matters not whether a crime was committed in exposing the emails; not to the issue of AWG, anyway.
Side issue ... red herring ... smoke screen ... distraction.

Looks like progress though :) It'll get it in the public eye for one thing.

Shouldnt it say... "Alleged behaviour of alleged scientists" since the data they use has never been peer reviewed dispite sixty freedom of information requests!

the petition gets a mention but i can't see anything in the article about the data which was 'stolen' been requested on numerous occasions under the FOI act.

The word "e-mails" was mentioned 3 times, data not mentioned once in that BBC article. Thats not exactly surprising seeing how positively they have thrown their weight behind the "warmists".

The emails are very subjective, its in the code of the programs added to climate models to "enhance" their data that will be most revealing.

The only good which could come of this is that they will be forced to give more coverage of it.
