Regardie's book - The Golden Dawn - is considered by many to be the book that started the modern occult movement. The original Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, which started in the late 1800s, borrowed from a wide variety of occult traditions Kabalah, Tarot, Geomancy, Enochian Magic, Theosophy, Freemasonry, Paganism, Astrology, and many more and created a unique and viable system of magic that is still being practiced today. Almost every contemporary occult writer and modern group has been influenced, directly or indirectly, by the HOGD or its members, making The Golden Dawn one of the most influential occult books of the past 100 years.

Regardie is one of my all-time favorite writers. "The Golden Dawn" was his masterpiece, but he wrote many other really great books, including:
A Garden of Pomegranates
My Rosicrucian Adventure
The Middle Pillar
The Eye In The Triangle: An Interpretation of Aleister Crowley

It is said that understanding Regardie’s writing style can be difficult. References to books and people from the 1920s–1940s may be obscure to people today. Unfortunately, even for well-educated readers, understanding Regardie requires specialized knowledge, interpretation and explanation. - http://www.llewellyn.com/journal/article/870
