I agree. Partridge is one of the best comedy characters ever invented. If you follow Alan Partridge from 'On The Hour', 'The Day Today', 'Knowing Me Knowing You' and 'I'm Alan Partridge', it's pure genius on the part of Steve Coogan and writers such as Armando Ianucci. It's brilliant the way that they developed his character over ten years, from radio to tv. They didn't just predictably churn out series after series- remember, he couldn't get a 'second' one, anyway ;)- he went through different stages of his life.

Partridge to me is a combination of Basil Fawlty, Rigsby and Bob Monkhouse on crack. There's also a bit of Richard Madeley's personality in there, if indeed 'personality' and 'Richard Madeley' can be mentioned in the same breath. :D I also like Paul and Pauline Calf and his Gareth Cheesman characters.

Check this out. Alan tries to get a job on Aussie radio:

I watched The Day Today, and it is surprising how many Joe Public people didn't realise it was a joke, I think they were alseep - no one questioned what they were being asked to do :) I remember the new Drug they made up called "Cake" and they got loads of celebrities to protest against it! The and the Paedo one as well, very interesting. Great stuff thanks for the vids!
