Canadian insurance firm Manulife has reportedly cut a depressed womans benefits because photos showing her happy were posted on Facebook.
The woman, Nathalie Blanchard, said she cannot understand how Manulife was able to access her account because she had adjusted her privacy settings so that only friends could see her posts, said CBC News.
Blanchard was on leave from her company IBM for over a year after she was diagnosed with depression. She claims she was having fun on her doctors advice in order to forget her problems.
Manulife has confirmed to CBC News that it uses Facebook to investigate clients.
But it said, "We would not deny or terminate a valid claim solely based on information published on websites such as Facebook."
Facebook has already proved its use to human resource departments wanting to investigate potential new staff. Senior managers have also been found to use Facebook to check up on employees.
According to Facebook's current privacy policy, the social networking site will share information to prevent fraud or other illegal activity.
"This may include sharing information with other companies, lawyers, courts or other government entities," says the policy.

I watched a video recording of the German football league from 2 weeks ago last night, it showed that goalkeeper chatting with colleagues, acknowledging his fans and being interviewed, looked as though he had not care in the world. 48 hours later he was under a train.

If she is clinically depressed then if she is on long term medication then this should theoretically make her feel better and thus smile. It means that her condition is chronic, but controlled.
Diabetics, hypertensives etc. Their condition doesn't disappear with medication, it just becomes less problomatic.

Facebook have already tried to delete numerous posts from my page. I have more than twice openly threatened them with legal action if the posts are not returned to my page and guess what? The posts are back on my page in full pride of place.. lol ;)

This is just beyond ridiculous, how are they able to cut someones benefit on the basis of a photograph? What does it prove? This woman, who is going through difficulty, spends time with friends and allows herself to smile.

Sarah the bent pig bribed some of my so called friends to make up a load of false allegations of paedophillia to help the shits feel better about themselves after trying to get rich out of someones murder.
But the allegations could never be examined in court as the people bribed to make them would have to admitt being involved in a crime that never happened but is asserted to have happened by PIGS who solicited the allegations using bribery in the first place.
They at least wanted to pretend I was a bad guy who deserved to have his flat turned into a gas chamber.
But then Prince Charles had been bribing all my friends since I was in school, Lady Diana was going to tell all, she needed to be lied to that all it would do is stop Prince William getting the crown as Charles accepted he is not fit to do it...but this only kept her quiet long enought to have her murdered.
Then they let the lie die too.
I wander if she was going to expose that Charles was bribing my girlfriend Alison to have an affair with Dylan so Charles could snigger.
We can see why he would develope this emotional weakness.
I mean they all say Diana was a slapper who deserved to die.
But then Diana deserves a Darwin Award for getting rid of her stupid genes.
Having informed the Editor of the Daily Mail that JP was planning to murderer her and make it look like a car crash she allowed herself to be driven at excessive speeds by a creepy froggie toady, and her insurance box just got dumped in the sea for a bung by Burell, as Charles says..the mercenary buffoon.
