Has MSG been banned in the UK? Or can it still be sold/used for human consumption?

I don't think its banned in the uk, although the co-op banned it from use in their own label products

You can still buy bags of the stuff in supermarkets, groceries, news agents etc etc.. It is sold under the actual name of "MSG" .. what a cheek.. :(

Its not banned, infact its in alot of junk food products to 'enhance' the flavour.
A lot of manufactures use its full name, mono-sodium glutamate as it is less well known to the 'MSG' tag people may watch out for.

it isn't banned, you can see it in many things if you check their ingredients, but i believe that it is banned in restraunts etc, i think there is some regulation that says it can not be used. This is probably because the diner can not check the ingredients of the food, whereas in 'super' markets, the consumer has the choice to look at the ingredients and purchase or not.
A friend of mine has a severe reaction to it and has severe palpatations if he eats any chineses food with it in. i believe that it is in a lit of chinese food as flavouring / colour enhansement?
