Had to register to the forums because of this. Im from Finland and my english isnt that great but our finnish teacher who was in politics few years back said something pretty weird on class when we were talking about NATO

And that's what protesting does. Nothing. It's sad really, I wish the guys in uniforms would of just took up sides with the protestors, but then shit would really hit the fan. Foreign troops would be called in most likely. Are the police just dumb and not know, or are they aware of the real problems and just afraid to do anything or what? I can't just get why they are that why. It's almost as if they are robots. If the right words could be spoken to cause these protest worldwide, words that would get the police or troops on our side people might have a better chance but then there is a risk of U.N. or foreign troops coming in and it's all out war. Seems hopeless, it's like all one can really do is ignore it and just live their life out as long as they possibly can. Fighting it non violently and bring more in carries the risk of far worse scenarios and we don't really want to go down that path. I don't atleast.

It's a very good question.

I think you have to go back to when these people join up; what type of peope are they that WANT to be in the police force? I assume that these people probably have their brain wired slightly differnetly, perhaps higher R-Complex part of the brain.

They are the type of people who are willing to be told what to do.

They also get a lot of trainging which is geared towards keeping them in line while wearing the uniform - it is driectly psychological and uses Pavlovian stimulus response to by-pass the nice parts of the brain and go direct to the reflexes;

I think the protestors did a good thing - however the police will not listen... it might sink in later, and they may have a rough night's sleep wondering about it, but they will not step out of the 'thin blue line'.

They are the first line of defence in the 3rd W W and they and their govts know this and they are watched very closely; talk to some out of uniform and they are 'just like you and me'! Some of them of course are utter tossers... but they have a uniform!

And yyes, using foreing troops is a tactic that has been used in the past very effectively; where was that now??

It's difficult what to think reall - such is the strength of the psychological training; most coppers you speak to out of uniform are ok and open to discussing all kinds of issues;

However, I think it's when they put those boots on!

Let me tell you a small story...!

2003 - we went to London to demo against the Iraq war.

After the marching, we went to Hyde Park to chill and soak up the vibe, there were loads of groups of people and a great atmos. We went over to one area where people were generally hanging around and some freestyle dancing was going on in a circle of peope who were clapping along; was really really good.

Then a squad of police came along to break it up.

I mean, they zeroed in on the group of 'hippy fuckers' who were having a good time ( no one bothering anyone else, no one making a mess, dropping litter, swearing, excessive noise, just gentle people enjoying the company of other strangers..)

So, these coppers decided time to squishthe fun.

Well, the people were not going to have it. So we had a small battle with the police, which I am happy to say, was 100% peaceful and we won in the end.

We surrounded the group of coppers, and advanced on them, everyone as one was chanting "GET OUT OF OUR PARK - GET OUT OF OUR PARK - GET OUT OF OUR PARK"

The group of police had no option, they had to either 'take us all on' or retreat. Some of the more jumpy ones did start lashing out with their battons; but everytime one of thme hit someone with a baton everyone else yelled "SHAME ON YOU SHAME ON YOU SHAME ON YOU" then when that was over, went back to "GET OUT OF OUR PARK - GET OUT OF OUR PARK - GET OUT OF OUR PARK"

So we alternated between the two.

This was not directed in anyway, was a totally spontaneous reaction by us.

Anyway, as we got to the edcge of the park - a really funny and bizarre thing happened!

Ringing the periphey of Hyde Park are flower beds; we got to one of these flower beds (the police are walking backwards) and the protestors everyone wnet around the flowers, while the coppers trampled over the flowers (to more yells of "SHAME"!).

it was really odd, that in the middle of a quite heated and volatile exchange, everyone one of us instinctively went round the flowers!!!! This of course ment that we instantly lost the tectical advantage we had when we were fronting up to them because now we had disipated a bit to go round!!

However, by then they had lost and had been pushed from the middle to the edge;

They retreated back to their vans to lick their wounds adn we went back to the centre to carry on the fun...! :p

One of the things that struck me was the bewillderment, confusion and fear that was in teh faces and eyes of most of these young coppers - people just 'following orders'.

You have to remember police are like dogs; they are tained, and trained, and trianed again to follow orders WITHOUT QUESTION - you will not waver them with words while in the line.

If you know anything about military traiing, which Police training follows, you will be more afraid of your Seargant thatn any other entity in the universe. Part of the success of the British Army was to make you more afraid of your Seargant Major than you were of the enemy - nothing you faced in the field would ever match that intense psychological fear of the Seargant.

When it comes to it - you will not be abel to talk them round, it is sad, bu ttrue. Only when they take their boots off can you try to talk to them!
