Were the Mayan people wiped out through an act of divine retribution? Were they punished for their dreadful behaviour, with extinction?
Are these our prophets?

It could be that the Mayans inherited their knowledge from the Olmecs:

Mayan people are alive (official history says the opposite) and some of them are still using their old "Calendar" ...

We cannot say that the Mayans are alive any more that we can say the Romans or the Pharohs are still with us.
We can say that the Greeks and the Eygptians are with us but not as representatives of their original civilisation. Often they're completely different people. But they have a nation which resembles somewhat the original.
The 'Mayans' have neither.
Their society was destroyed and their values (child killing for example) were abanoned.
Therefore what we have are desecendents from the Mayans but not mayans themselves, they do not live in the Mayan world anymore.
Good. In my view they were a bunch of bloody savages and we really shouldn't get too fluffy about them.
All those Mayan lovers, imagine you found yourself magically transported back in time.. they'd either worship you as a god or tear your heart out or both.... Simple minded buggers and now they are dictating our future from beyong the grave?
It IS a joke. The brothers must be pissing themselves.
