I started a new job this week in a school, on the third day we had a meeting about citizenship as a subject, and how we have to bleed it into every other subject, ie pe, maths, english. Its been about a while, i was just unaware of it. What i found disturbing was watching all of these teachers, educated people not only accepting but implementing this subject. On the surface of it it looks ok, teaching kids morals and ' how to be a good citizen' but what struck me was this is merely a way of getting a generation ready to be enslaved. Our kids are being bombarded with this shit, and they will go home and tell mum and dad all about it, so no doubt we will start hearing it on the radio and tv with more and more frequency. Its not that shocking, we all here have a fairly good idea of whats comming, however its apathy and the refusual to trust their own intuition that drives me mad. The people of this country are still fast asleep on the whole, i think we need some sort of event to wake up the world, then maybe we can look forward to world where society works together, based on love, empathy and all of the good things about humanity. We are only one generation away from teaching our kids some really positive skills, but at the moment they are being fucked over

Crazy...Remember starship troopers, you had to earn citizenship to have rights like having children. I forgot what they called the underclass...

System slaves had "rights" and were called citizens, the underclass were called civilians

That was a fantastic film!:) The word "civilian" linked citizenship with military service. The society was so war-oriented that fighting in one was the only way to be a complete person!

My daughter's school has citizenship classes. She leanrs some useful things there, actually. They teach things like how how to call the emergecny services and what to do if you get lost. However the school has other unwritten "citizenship" lesson, like when they tried to take the kids' fingerprints!
