Conservative Party leader David Cameron is proposing a modern-day equivalent of national service in an attempt to get youngsters in shape for adulthood and to teach them self-respect and social responsibility.

His plan for a National Citizen Service will not replicate conscription but will rely on volunteers signing up to six weeks of charity work and physical training on leaving school.

Cameron believes it will give youngsters a sense of “purpose, optimism and belonging” and bring them together.

Do you think youngsters will volunteer for such a scheme? What would you like to see in a modern-day national service?

I went for a few pints last night and I was talking about the war to some people in thier late teens whilst having a smoke outside the bar and they were all for it. Thought it was great. I told them to google Depleted Uranium, they laughed. Deary me.

Slightly off topic, but I was talking to someone the other day and thier kids had come home from school (I think they are about 8 yrs old) and they were distressed because they had all had to hide under thier desks for a bomb alert practice. They are so conditioning the kids at the moment.

Coincidentally (:rolleyes:), in the USA the Fox TV Network will soon release a new show called Kid Army.

In the show, a group of 40 children from ages 7-15 will train and plan a mission
as an army unit all on their own.

"We'll supply them food, barracks and weapons, then it's up to them to train as

Yeah- we've already had our fair share of the army based reality shows with 'Bad Lads Army' for teens and young offenders to go and join the army (old style) in a specially made camp, it was very strict etc,and low and behold most of them were 'reformed' by the time they left, i think all it does is teach respect and discipline both of which i believe are lacking in society today but is the National Service or Army going to be the answer....somehow i think all this will do is create a productionline of young brainwashed unhinged killing machines, with a licence to go wild with power and authority.......
