I've been doing some research on this fella he's set in stone about this 2012 gig, hell his career is based on it. Hell, according to everyone he was the one who introduced the mere concept of 2012 into the mainstream 20 odd yrs ago. He's having a biography written about him  by a woman who 'saw' him in her dreams before meeting.
I'd love him to be right and not a bullshit artist. He has many beautiful opinions about life but my bullshit sense is tingling. What are people's opinions on the man and his work?
EDIT- I meant

I know what you mean, almost everything we read or hear about the Mayan calender can be traced back to his works. It makes you wonder.
A listen to podcast no.4 on here http://gnosticmedia.podomatic.com/ ,may shed a little light on the matter.:)
In this show we investigate a modern mystery and phenomenon that has recently swept the world. It can be found discussed at large conventions for $300 for an admission ticket - where the so-called experts gather to promote their ideas of this field of study - and also in popular books, movies, radio shows, and TV programs.
I’m talking about 2012 and the history of the Mayan Calendar. But did 2012 really come from the Maya? Or from charlatans? What is fact, and what is fiction? And what is religion? Most of you will be surprised.
I interview John Hoopes, Director of the Global Indigenous Nations Studies Program, and Associate professor of Anthropology at the University of Kansas, Lawrence. He earned his doctorate from Harvard University in Anthropology, 1987.
Whether you’re a believer or not, this is one show you won't want to miss!

Also it's as if the maya were super spiritually advanced people. They weren't. They sacrificed people so that they wouldn't(or so the believed was the case) get annihalated by the 'Gods'. Also the way they lived in their societies was heirarcheral(sp), with the rich folk living in the middle and the poor in the suburbs. Not to mention all the war and brutality around this period.
I don't know, it's so confusing. For a man to say we are all going to be snapped into a higher consciousness in 3 years is a tall order. I believe in higher consciousness for sure, but there is barely anyone on this planet who has worked for such a thing. Perhaps that is the point. The ones who didn't will not survive.

2012 ascension is total and utter disinformation. The more you look into this stuff the more ridiculous it is. Wish I could state some reasons why, but basically I'm not buying it, it's been debated before and I really can't be assed no more to try explain.

I very much doubt it did.
Signed the eternal sceptic. One who used to believe or consider all this ascension stuff as truth, but no longer does.
One may as well believe that your chosen religious messiah is coming back to save all those souls who are of a higher consciousness.

True enough. Could be a case of different asshole, same shit. What worries me is if it is disinfo, then how they are going to use 2012? Especially since there are millions of sick people in America who are literally begging for Revelations to hit home in 2012.
