I know,

Bob Marley I Know - YouTube

Many people have not seen Bob Marley during his eight months of fighting that took him from us so many years ago. I believe that we need to see Bob until his very last times on this earth. No different from when we want to be with a love one that is dying and are in their last days. Bob Marley having cancer did not make him any less than a man did than he was with his flowing Dreads and his abominable strength. The song entitled, "I Know" was actually a song that Bob Marley and Wailers recorded in 1975 and was to be released on the Rastaman Vibration album. It was never released on that album however in 1981 just weeks before Bob Marley died he Called Aston Family man Barret from his sick bed and told him to produce it. The song eerily spoke of the things that Bob was going through at that time during his fight against cancer. That is why I choose the song that you hear along with a picture of Bob Marley that was taking during his Chemotherapy. Bob Marley is and will continue to bring people all over the world warmth, compassion and love and the determination to achieve the impossible. Always have people around you that love and care for you! Peace and lots of love! :)

Wo, man, deh you are!

When the race gets hard to run,
It means you just can't take the pace.
When it's time to have your fun,
You find the tears run on down through your face,
Then you stop and think a little:
Are you the victim of the system?
Anyday now they gon' let you down;
Remember, Natty will be there
To see you through.

(I) And ain't it good to know (know) now:
Jah will be waiting there.
(I) Ain't it doggone good to know (know) , you all;
Jah will be waiting there.
Wait in Summer, wait in Spring,
Wait in Autumn, Winter thing,
[*Tribe] goes up, all the tribe goes down:
Bring my children from the end of d'earth

Many a time I sit and wonder why
This race so - so very hard to run,
Then I say to my soul: take courage,
Battle to be won,
Like a ship that's tossed and driven,
Battered by the angry sea, yea-eah!
Say the tide of time was raging;
Don't let the fury fall on me, no, no!

(I) 'Cause I know (know) -know:
Jah will be waiting there;
(I) Ain't it good to know (know) now:
Jah will be waiting there. Wo-oo-o-oo-o! Ooh, yeah!
Lost and found, who speak I give;
Lost and found, who speak I give;
Speak I give, lost and found.
Lost and found, who speak I give;
Lost and found, who speak I give.

bob marley - Give Me Trench Town - YouTube

Up a cane river to wash my dread
Upon a rock I rest my head
There I vision through the seas of oppression
Don't make my life a prison

We come from Trench Town, Trench Town
Most of them come from Trench Town
We free the people with music, sweet music
Can we free the people with music
Can we free our people with music, with music
With music, oh music

Whoa my head, in desolate places we'll find our bread
And everyone see what's taking place
Whoa-yo another page in history

We come from Trench Town, come from Trench Town
We come from Trench Town
Lord we free the people with music
We free the people with music, sweet music
We free our people with music
With music, oh music, oh music

They say it's hard to speak
They feel so strong to say we're weak
But through the eyes the love of our people
Whoa-a they got to repay

We come from Trench Town
We come from Trench Town, Trench, Trench Town
They say can anything good come out of Trench Town?
That's what they say, Trench Town
Say we're the underprivileged people
So they keep us in chains
Pay pay pay tribute to Trench Town, Trench Town
We come from Trench Town, not because we come from Trench Town
Just because we come from Trench Town

Bob Marley (& Lost Boyz & Mr. Cheeks) - Guiltiness [1999] - YouTube

Guiltiness (talkin' 'bout guiltiness)
Pressed on their conscience. Oh yeah.
And they live their lives (they live their lives)
On false pretence everyday -
Each and everyday. Yeah.

These are the big fish
Who always try to eat down the small fish,
Just the small fish.
I tell you what: they would do anything
To materialize their every wish. Oh yeah.

Say: Woe to the downpressors:
They'll eat the bread of sorrow!
Woe to the downpressors:
They'll eat the bread of sad tomorrow!
Woe to the downpressors:
They'll eat the bread of sorrow!
Oh, yeah-! Oh, yeah!

Guiltiness
Pressed on their conscience. Oh yeah. Oh yeah.
These are the big fish
Who always try to eat down the small fish,
Just the small fish.

I tell you what: they would do anything
To materialize their every wish. Oh, yeah.

But: Woe to the downpressors:
They'll eat the bread of sorrow!
Woe to the downpressors:
They'll eat the bread of sad tomorrow!
Woe to the downpressors:
They'll eat the bread of sad tomorrow!
Oh, yeah-! Oh yeah-e-e-e-e-e!

Guiltiness. Oh yeah. Ah!
They'll eat the bread of sorrow everyday.

Bob Marley-Mix up, Mix Up - YouTube

Oh Lord, oh Lord, oh Lord, yeah!

Well, it's not easy,
It's not easy
Speak the truth, come on, speak. Eh, now!
It ever cause it what it will:
He who hide the wrong he did
Surely did the wrong thing still.

Get in the studio of -
Studio of time and experience
Here we experience the good and bad;
What we have, and what we had -
This session (session),
Not just another version (version).
Oh Lord, give me a session (session),
Not another version (version)!
They're so much stumbling blocks right in-a our way:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday;
There's so much wanting, so much
gaining, so much have done.

Too much little mix-up, in the mix-up, yes!
Too much little mix up!
Too much of this mix up - mix up!

I was born in the country, right on top of the hill
I still remain, I know I still, I will-a,
But through your f...in' respect and
through your false pride
Someone wanna take Jah - Jah -
Jah children for a ride!
Shut up! Open the gate, and let the saints through.

Please make it a session (session);
Not another version (version);
Ooh, please make it a session (session);
Not another version (version)!

Hey, you been talkin' all your mouth full of lies,

Sitting there toppling and, Lord, they criticize.
So through the eyes of the fool the deaf is wise,
And through the eyes of the wise the fool is size.:)

Man to man is so unjust, children:
Ya don't know who to trust.
Your worst enemy could be your best friend,
And your best friend your worst enemy.

Some will eat and drink with you,
Then behind them su-su 'pon you.
Only your friend know your secrets,
So only he could reveal it.
And who the cap fit, let them wear it!
Who the cap fit, let them wear it!
Said ah throw meh corn, me no call no fowl;
Ah saying, "Cook-cook-cook, cluk-cluk-cluk."

Some will hate you, pretend they love you now,
Then behind they try to eliminate you.
But who Jah bless, no one curse;
Thank God, we're past the worst.
Hypocrites and parasites
Will come up and take a bite.
And if your night should turn to day,
Ah lot of people would run away.
And who the cap fit let them wear it!
Who the (cap fit) let them (wear it)!

And then ah-gonna "Cook-cook-cook, cluk-cluk-cluk."

Bob Marley Ambush In The Night Lyrics - YouTube

On December 3 of 1976, an assassination attempt was made on Bob Marley, his wife and the managers of the Wailers to keep him from playing at the Smile Jamaica concert in Kingston. His concert was scheduled for December 5 after a presidential candidate’s election rally, a presidential candidate who happened to be at odds with the US. Some people believe that the assassination attempt was executed by the US government, for fear that Marley’s performance would sway the vote. Despite receiving two gun shot wounds, Bob Marley performed anyway and then left for the UK.

http://www.essortment.com/all/biographyofbob_reiq.htm

Bob Marley once survived an assassination attempt. Was he always a CIA target ?

Son of the late CIA director William Colby, Carl Colby met Bob Marley backstage, at a concert in Kingston Jamaica in 1976. He gave Bob a pair of boots as a gift. When Marley tried the boots on, he screamed in pain. Apparently a sharp piece of cooper protruding through the upper sole, stuck him in his big toe. Five months later, while playing soccer, he hurt the same toe and the nail came off. After visiting a local doctor, it determine the toe could not be saved. Rastas don't believe in amputation, instead thinking Jah would heal the toe. By the end of 1977, the cancer would begin to spread throughout his body and it eventually would claim his life in 1981.

His former "Wailer" band mate, Peter Tosh, was gunned down at his Jamaican home, later in 1986, in a so-called robbery. While Tosh's wife was critically wounded, two of his band members died alongside him that night. Oddly though, nothing was stolen. Two of the three gunmen got away. The lone captured is serving a life sentence for his part and to this day will not speak about the murder.

I never saw it when televised (too young) so am so grateful to whoever put it on youtube, probably an ex channel 4 worker as the youtube episodes have the old 'count in' screen

It's probably the best documentary i have seen on reggae music, another good one from that time is 'reggae inna babylon' (i think) which was a german production, some short clips from it on youtube but not many

I think one reason for the programmes at that time was actually the riots of summer 1981, which had a racial slant but was more a protest from young people about the government and policing. And the British reggae scene was very vibrant and it was probably CH4 wanting to doccument it.

Channel Four at that time also seemed to align themselves with 'leftie' working class causes, with shows like Brookside and others. We only have to look at Big Brother to see what they're now about.

Going back to the hip hop thread I did, reggae experienced a similar watering down. Aswad and Steel Pulse began the eighties each poised to become Marley's successors. By the end of it, Aswad had gone pop and Steel Pulse were being asked to sound like Eddie Grant and record with Madonna's producer.

One of my favourite U Roy tracks....it sounds like Marley singing but it's actually The Gladiators, who were contemporaries of Bob from the late 60s.

and the children; everything is so sweet

I´m doing my thing and I´m doing it slow
but there is just one thing I
would like you to know, oo
When it's wet and slippery yea
When it's damp and crumbly
it is likely you will tumble down,
Don´t want you on the ground
Oh oh oh Caution, the road is wet

Black soul is black as jet
Do you hear me
Caution the road is hot
You got to do better than that
´cause ah
When it's wet and slippery (when
it wet it slippery yea)
When the ground be crumbling
it is likely you were tumbling down
don´t wash it underground brother
Hit me from the top
you crazy motherfunky
When it's wet and slippery yea
When it's damp and crumbly
if it's likely you were tumbling down
Don´t watch
it on the ground

There's a natural mystic blowing through the air;
If you listen carefully now you will hear.
This could be the first trumpet, might as well be the last:
Many more will have to suffer,
Many more will have to die - don't ask me why.

Things are not the way they used to be,
I won't tell no lie;
One and all have to face reality now.
'Though I've tried to find the answer to all the questions they ask.
'Though I know it's impossible to go livin' through the past -
Don't tell no lie.

There's a natural mystic blowing through the air -
Can't keep them down -
If you listen carefully now you will hear.

There's a natural mystic blowing through the air.

This could be the first trumpet, might as well be the last:

Some they say see them walking up the street
They say we are going wrong to all the people we meet
But we won't worry, we won't shed no tears
We found a way to cast away the fears
Forever Yeah!

We'll be forever loving Jah
Forever yes and forever
We'll be forever loving Jah, there'll be no end

So old man river don't dry for me
I have got a running stream of love you see
So no matter what stages, oh stages, stages
Stages they put us thru we'll never be blue
No matter what rages, oh rages, changes.
Rages they put us thru, we'll never be blue
We'll be forever yeah!

Forever and ever and forever
Cause there is no end

Cause only a fool lean up on, lean upon
His own misunderstanding
And what has been hidden from the wise and the prudent,
Been revealed to the babe and the suckling
In every thing, in every way I say

Cause just like a tree planted planted by the river of water
That bringeth forth bringeth forth, fruits in due season
Every thing in life got its purpose
Find its reason in every season, forever Yeah!

We'll be forever loving Jah
We'll be forever
We'll be forever loving Jah
On and on and on
We'll be forever loving Jah

damian marley feat steel pulse - YouTube :)

We honour Bob Marley as he was more generally known, with an Intermix Positive Contribution Award for the wonderful legacy of music and words he left behind. He is an inspiration to the oppressed, a brother to the sufferer and a friend to the lonely,
a shining light to the people. Robert Nesta Marley, you will never be forgotten.

Bob Marley, can easily claim the title as the most famous mixed-race individual of the 20th Century. Whether he would ever have described himself as mixed-race will never be known, Yet, he certainly was affected by his mixed racial heritage and there are still people today who do not know of Bob’s dual heritage.

Robert Nesta Marley was born to a Jamaican mother and a Scottish father. His father, however, deserted the family shortly after his son was born. As a half-white child in Jamaica, Bob was not easily accepted in the local community. He was often considered to be white. This was a legacy from colonialism whereby those with lighter skin were often more privileged than their darker counterparts. It is known today as shadism. Bob's white blood would cause him much pain in his early youth, especially compounded by the fact that his father played no part in his life. He had been known to curse the white blood that ran through his veins.

His wife Rita Marley, commented, 'Bob had to put up with a lot of resistance in Trench Town. If he hadn't been so strong in himself, he wouldn't have become what he is today. He'd be down-trodden and seen as another half-caste who could never make it.

His teacher, Clarice Bushay said, 'Bob was shy at school, he required constant reassurance.’ She felt she should moderate the amount of attention she gave him. 'Because he was light skinned, other children would become jealous of him getting so much of my time.'

Despite his humble beginnings, Bob would grow up to be the most well known Reggae artist to date and is credited with bringing Reggae music and the Rastafarian religion to the western world. During his lifetime, Bob Marley and the Wailers released 11 albums in Britain and although he never attained number one here whilst he was alive, his name and music is known throughout the world.

There were those close to him that attributed Bob's success to his having a Scottish father(Norval Sinclair Marley), and the sacrifices that Bob made in his teenage years for being half-white have never been acknowledged. Despite the rejection of his white family and some members of the black community, Bob did not harbour any negative racial assumptions and deplored anything classed as otherness: apart from the human race.

‘Unity is the world's key, and racial harmony. Until the white man stop calling himself white and the black man stop calling himself black, we will not see it. All the people on the earth are just one family, and so my music defends righteousness. If you’re black and you're wrong, you're wrong; if you're white and you're wrong, you're wrong; if you're Indian and you're wrong, you're wrong. It's universal.' Bob Marley.

Sir William, the chapel builder, is also the direct ancestor of First Grand Master Mason of Scotland, also named William St Clair (Sinclair)

I thought there may have been a connection?

Sinclair,

Definition: Taken from the hermit St. Clare or St. Clere, this derivation of the St. Claire surname comes from the Latin "clarus," meaning 'pure, renowned, illustrious.'

Surname Origin: Scottish.

He is one of only a few artists I'd have loved to have seen live. My Mum tried to get a ticket to his Leeds concert in 1976. She took the day off work, went a good two hours before the ticket office opened- it had sold out!

Until I got a bit more aware of things, it never occured to me that he might have died from 'unnatural causes', shall we say....

In high seas or in low seas
I'm gonna be your friend,

In high tide or in low tide,
I'll be by your side,
I'll be by your side.

(I heard her praying, praying, praying)
I said, I heard my mother,
She was praying (praying, praying, praying)
And the words that she said (the words that she said),
They still linger in my head (lingers in my head),
She said, "A child is born in this world,
He needs protection,
God, guide and protect us,
When we're wrong, please correct us.
(when we're wrong, correct us).
And stand by me." yeah!

In high seas or in low seas,
I'm gonna be your friend,
He said, "I'm gonna be your friend."
And, baby, in high tide or low tide,
I'll be by your side,
I'll be by your side.

I said I heard my mother,
She was crying' (I heard her crying'), yeah! (crying', crying'),
And the tears that she shed (the tears that she shed)
They still linger in my head (lingers in my head)

She said: "A child is born in this world,

I know Jah's never let us down;
Pull your rights from wrong

Oh, no! Oh, no! Oh, no!
They made their world so hard (so hard):
Every day we got to keep on fighting (fighting);

Every day the people are dyin' (dying), yeah!

And then you give us the teachings of His Majesty,
For we no want no devil philosophy;

They don't want to see us unite:
All they want us to do is keep on fussing and fighting.
They don't want to see us live together:
All they want us to do is keep on killing one another.

Top rankin', top rankin':
Are you skankin' (skankin', skankin')?
Are you skankin' (skankin', skankin')?
Wo-ho, top rankin' (top rankin'), 'Ow, did you mean what you say now?
Are you - 'ow are you (rankin', rankin') -
are ya - Lord, Lord, Lord! (skankin', skankin')?

They say the blood runs;
And it runs through our line,
And our hearts, heart of hearts divine, eh!
And John saw them comin', ooh! - a-with the truth
From an ancient time.

The brotherly love (brotherly love), the sisterly love (sisterly love)
I feel this morning; I feel this morning:
Brotherly love (brotherly love), the sisterly love (sisterly love)
I feel this morning, this morning. Hey!

They don't want us to unite:
All they want us to do is keep on fussing and fighting.
They don't want to see us live together;
All they want us to do is keep on killing one another.

Bob Marley - So Much Trouble In The World [01] - YouTube

So much trouble in the world
So much trouble in the world

Bless my eyes this morning
Jah sun is on the rise once again
The way earthly thin's are goin'
Anything can happen.

You see men sailing on their ego trip,
Blast off on their spaceship,
Million miles from reality:
No care for you, no care for me.

So much trouble in the world;
So much trouble in the world.
All you got to do: give a little (give a little),
Give a little (give a little), give a little (give a little)!
One more time, ye-ah! (give a little) Ye-ah! (give a little)
Ye-ah! (give a little) Yeah!

So you think you've found the solution,
But it's just another illusion!
(So before you check out this tide),
Don't leave another cornerstone
Standing there behind, eh-eh-eh-eh!
We've got to face the day;
(Ooh) Ooh-wee, come what may:
We the street people talkin',
Yeah, we the people strugglin'.

Now they sitting on a time bomb; (Bomb-bomb-bomb! Bomb-bomb-bomb!)
Now I know the time has come: (Bomb-bomb-bomb! Bomb-bomb-bomb!)
What goes on up is coming on down, (Bomb-bomb-bomb! Bomb-bomb-bomb!)
Goes around and comes around. (Bomb-bomb-bomb! Bomb-bomb-bomb!)

So much trouble in the world;
So much trouble in the world;
So much trouble in the world.
There is so much trouble (so much trouble in the world);
There is so much trouble;
There is so much trouble (so much in the world);
There is so much trouble;
There is so much trouble in the world (so much trouble in the world);
There is (so much in the world);
(So much trouble in the world)

wonder if someone could do a name that tune ? ;) couple of records that i love but don't know the title of song or group and have been wanting to track down for a long time. definetley mid 1970's tunes, more reggae than dub

i used to tape IRIE FM when i lived in manc. lost the tapes now but i'm sure some rocker on here will know one of the two

first one it's song with two lead vocals maybe one in falsetto, kinda thought it was perhaps the wailing souls, the lyrics are -
remember when we went to school
you were my first friend, you were my first friend
the teacher taught the golden rule
to love one another like sister and brother

the second track is almost like a gospel tune, very godly. the main part of the song is a harmony of male and female vocals singing 'the time has come for a change'

first one it's song with two lead vocals maybe one in falsetto,

falsetto could be CEDRIC MYTON of THE CONGOS? that 'group' was Myton and Roy someone, Lee perry brought in a third voice, baritone Watty Burnett for the 'heart of the congos' album

lyrics could be congos but are very 'wailing souls' also. They also recorded for 'studio one' under the name 'the classics'

the second track is almost like a gospel tune, very godly. the main part of the song is a harmony of male and female vocals singing 'the time has come for a change'

did it sound like STUDIO 1 or did it possibly have the Lee Perry 'black ark' vibe?

(Ow, ow-ow-ow-ow!
Ow, ow-ow-ow-ow!)
Yeah, yeah, yeah!
How can you be sitting there
Telling me that you care -
That you care?
When every time I look around,
The people suffer in the suffering
In everyway, in everywhere.

Say: na-na-na-na-na (na-na, na-na!):
We're the survivors, yes: the Black survivors!
I tell you what: some people got everything;
Some people got nothing;
Some people got hopes and dreams;
Some people got ways and means.

Na-na-na-na-na (na-na, na-na!):
We're the survivors, yes: the Black survivors!
Yes, we're the survivors, like Daniel out of the lions' den
(Black survivors) Survivors, survivors!
So I Idren, I sistren,
A-which way will we choose?
We better hurry; oh, hurry; oh, hurry; wo, now!
'Cause we got no time to lose.
Some people got facts and claims;
Some people got pride and shame;
Some people got the plots and schemes;
Some people got no aim it seems!

Na-na-na-na-na, na-na, na!
We're the survivors, yes: the Black survivors!
Tell you what: we're the survivors, yeah! - the Black survivors, yeah!
We're the survivors, like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego
(Black survivors),
Thrown in the fire, but-a never get burn.
So I Idren, I-sistren,
The preaching and talkin' is done;
We've gotta live up, wo now, wo now! -
'Cause the Father's time has come.
Some people put the best outside;
Some people keep the best inside;
Some people can't stand up strong;
Some people won't wait for long.

(Na-na-na-na-na!) Na-na-na, na-na-na na!
We're the survivors
In this age of technological inhumanity (Black survival),
Scientific atrocity (survivors),
Atomic mis philosophy (Black survival),
Nuclear mis energy (survivors):
It's a world that forces lifelong insecurity (Black survival).

Together now:
(Na-na-na-na-na!) Na na-na na na! (Na na-na na na!)
We're the survivors, yeah!
We're the survivors!
Yes, the Black survivors!
We're the survivors:
A good man is never honoured (survivors)
In his own yountry (Black survival).
Nothing change, nothing strange (survivors).
Nothing change, nothing strange (Black survivors).
We got to survive, y'all! (survivors)

But to live as one equal in the eyes
Of the Almighty.

great men , I was forgetting mittoo's early skatalites days and the piano work in studio one, but i consider him mainly an organ man,

'WIRE' lindo has a serious organ wobble, fastest shuffle in the west as I would say.

Yes, Jackie's organ instrumentals are essential listening. Check out his version of 'Norwegian Wood'. A great composer too, 'Drum Song' 'The Magician' and 'Hot Milk' are brilliant melodies.

One of the best albums for Wire Lindo's work is the posthumous Marley release TALKING BLUES....loads of live cuts done on US radio.

What I miss in reggae today is the musicianship.

norwegian wood - nice 'distressed ' hammond tone but it is the rhythm that makes that version special or improved on the original

drum song - i suppose it probably had a certain 'weight' back when it came out but i find it stodgy
I like mittoos 'meters' covers
but really I like him best for his basslines, Leroy Sibbles from heptones played bass on many , many classic studio one riddims and he said mittoo showed him what notes to play, thus 'writing' those basslines

Bob Marley - Ride Natty Ride live in Santa Barbara 1979 - YouTube

Rub, rub, rubby-doo-day;
Rum-pum-pum a-rum-pum-pum-pum!
Dready got a job to do
And he's got to fulfill that mission
To see his hurt is their greatest ambition, yeah!
But-a we will survive in this world of competition,
'Cause no matter what they do
Natty keep on comin'through,
And no matter what they say-ay-ay-ay,
Natty de deh every day. yeah!
Natty Dread rides again,
Through the mystics of tomorrow,
Natty Dread rides again:
Have no fear, have no sorrow, yeah!

All and all you see a-gwan
Is to fight against Rastaman.
So they build their world in great confusion
To force on us the devil's illusion.
But the stone that the builder refuse
Shall be the head cornerstone,
And no matter what game they play,
Eh, we got something they could never take away;
We got something they could never take away:

And it's the fire (fire), it's the fire (fire)
That's burning down everything:
Feel that fire (fire), the fire (fire);
Only the birds have their wings, yeah!
No time to be deceived.
Oh, brothers, you should know and not believe:
Jah say this judgement - it could never be with water,
No water could put out this fire (fire):
This fire (fire), this fire (fire),
This fire (fire), a yaga y'all! Ride, Natty, ride!
Go deh, Dready, go deh,
'Cause now the fire is out of control,
Panic in the city, wicked weeping for their gold!
Everywhere this fiyah is burning,
Destroying and melting their gold,
Destroying and wasting their souls.

Go ride, Natty, ride!
Go deh, Dready! Go deh!

Tell you what: now the people gather on the beach
And the leader try to make a speech,
But the Dreadies understandin' that it's too late:
Fire is burning;
Man, pull your own weight!
Fiyah is burning;
Man, pull your own weight!
Natty Dread rides again (Natty Dread rides again);
And me say, Go deh, Dready! Go deh! (go deh, go deh)
Oh ride, Natty, ride! (Dread rides again)
And go deh, Dready! (Go deh, go deh)
Ridin' through the storm,
Riding through the calm (go deh, go deh).
Oh ride, Natty, ride!
Go deh, Dready, go deh!
Ride, Natty, ride!
Go deh, Dready, do deh! /fadeout/

Misty mornin', don't see no sun;
I know you're out there somewhere having fun.
There is one mystery - yea-ea-eah - I just can't express:
To give your more, to receive your less.

"Don't jump in the water, if you can't swim."
The power of philosophy - yea-ea-eah - floats through my head
Light like a feather, heavy as lead;
Light like a feather, heavy as lead, yeah.

Cause what I'm seein is haunting

In Zimbabwe
They make John Pope seem Godly
Sacrilegious and blasphemous

In my lifetime I look back at paths i've walked
Where savages fought and pastors taught
Prostitutes stomp in high heel boots
And badges screaming,"Young black children stop or I will shoot!"
I look back at cooked crack
Plus cars that pass by
Jaguars mad fly
And I'm guilty for materialism
Blacks is still up in the prison Trust that
So save me your sorries, I'm raising an army
Revolutionary warfare with Damian Marley
We sparkin' the ions, marching to Zion
You know how Nas be NYC state of mind I'm in

Yes Paolo,

That is a great track and I saw them play it live back in 1991.

The violin in the song is a sample of traditional Afghan music. Round about the time that I was checking out Head Charge, I was also getting into music from around the globe. There was a series of recordings done by a company called FOLKWAYS. One of the albums they put out was called 'The Music Of Afghanistan'. My jaw dropped when I heard the first track, as it was clearly the violin melody that Sherwood had incorporated. And it fits perfectly with dub too!

Aswad were in the vanguard of reggae music in the late 70s and early 80s, with tracks like Warrior Charge, Rainbow Culture, Babylon, Not Satisfied etc.
On some levels, I was happy for them when they got number one with Don't Turn Around. But the days of Warrior Charge were pretty much over.

This is real, this is real

Now I see them giving the woman abortion to kill another baby
Miscarriage and misfortune and premature crack baby
Strength of Ras Tafari I'm hoping someday maybe
They don't obey parents, maybe they will obey me
Future for the babies
Hopes for the babies
Tomorrow for the babies
No sorrow for the babies
Babies having babies
Raising our babies
All of these young ladies
Give them thanks and praises
How long can she take it?
Dreams are full of 'maybes',
Will she ever make it?
Hustles on a daily

In the club she shake it, strip down 'till she naked
Don't ever mistake it, Much too real to fake it
Need it then she'll take it
She'll do it for the babies
A mother's love is sacred
Now you don't you ever fail me

A woman needs caring, sharing, love all the time (no don't you ever fail me)
A child needs loving, caring...

Is there no other option than adoption for you babies
You're raffling and jacketing and auctioning your babies
Strength of Ras Tafari I'm hoping someday maybe
They don't obey their parents, maybe they will obey me
Cowards play the game thing
Fathers do the brave thing
And that's participating
He keeps on concentrating
There is no debating
No running away thing
A new life is awakening, From his ejaculating,
It's in the oven baking
Takes two for the making
He's right there through the cravings
And early morning waking

School and educating
Sports and recreating, Karate and ballet thing
Teenager of today thing
Fathers still relating, still communicating
And they'll always embrace him
Cause they cannot replace him

And always do your very best to keep a promise to your babies
And if you can't be good, at least be honest to your babies

Beginning of the ages
You're flipping thru the pages
And up and thru the 80's

Some intoxicated, Headed for the snake pit
And Papa's locked in cages
And Mama's lacking wages
And this what they're faced with, upon a daily basis

Bleaching out dem faces,
Running from dem races
Shooting up them places
Killing other babies
As bitter as the taste is, And words can not explain it

Hmmm....I do know that by 1999 it sounded like it had become more about the 'wad' than the music. Their 'pre-chart success' stuff is always going to be inspirational to me. regardless.

I saw them in Leeds in 2006, it's only Drummie and Tony from the original band. It should really be called Drummie Zeb's solo project.

They had a reunion for the Island 50th anniversary and performed African Children- that was cool.

I'm feelin' British reggae, Aswad, Steel Pulse, Misty in Roots, Black Roots... I met them in Glasgow, back in the day....

Back in '84, the band I was in was fortunate to pick up a support slot to Aswad in London. It was a Young Socialists annual convention. They played a brilliant gig, a masterclass in live reggae.

I learnt how to play by listening to all those bands- it was a good scene.

There was an awesome reggae scene in Glasgow in the eighties... I saw everyone, Dillinger, Culture, Tapper zukie etc

What instrument do you play Imani? Have you still got a band?

Here's a nice tune: World a Reggae.

Britain was much better for reggae back then.....all the big artists used to come to play in Bradford too.

I sing and play piano.... Check my myspace link in my sig....there's a few bits of live stuff in my blog. :)

Edit.....I saw Ini in manchester back in 1986.....great gig, with sly and Robbie.....slept in the train station afterwards, that's how keen i was, no hotel, no bed and brekkers. :D

Singin: dont worry about a thing,

Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true,

WAR by Bob Marley and the Wailers - YouTube

Until the philosophy which hold one race superior
And another
Inferior
Is finally
And permanently
Discredited
And abandoned -
Everywhere is war -
Me say war.

That until there no longer
First class and second class citizens of any nation
Until the colour of a man's skin
Is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes -
Me say war.

That until the basic human rights
Are equally guaranteed to all,
Without regard to race -
Dis a war.

That until that day
The dream of lasting peace,
World citizenship
Rule of international morality
Will remain in but a fleeting illusion to be pursued,
But never attained -
Now everywhere is war - war.

And until the ignoble and unhappy regimes
that hold our brothers in Angola,
In Mozambique,
South Africa

and the NWO and their LACKEYS

Sub-human bondage
Have been toppled,
Utterly destroyed -
Well, everywhere is war -
Me say war.

War in the east,
War in the west,
War up north,
War down south -
War - war -
Rumours of war.
And until that day,
The African continent
Will not know peace,
We Africans will fight - we find it necessary -
And we know we shall win
As we are confident
In the victory

Of good over evil -
Good over evil, yeah!
Good over evil -
Good over evil, yeah!
Good over evil -
Good over evil, yeah!

Said ah throw meh corn, me no call no fowl;

Some will hate you, pretend they love you now,

But who Jah bless, no one curse;

Still I always think how the Falasha Black Jews of Ethiopia were transported to Israel to avoid the black Aids epidemic. The Eritrean Falasha were transported under the guise of the Ethiopia/Eritrea war so that the Ark of the Covenant could be delivered to Egyptian trustees.
This might be considered a teensy bit Nazi

and its alright

what did you say?

rejected by society
treated with impunity
protected by my dignity
i search for reality

new wave, new craze
new wave, new wave,

im sayin
the Wailers will be there
the Damned, the Jam, the Clash
Maytals will be there
Dr. Feelgood too

no boring old farts, no boring old farts, no boring old farts

no boring old farts, no boring old farts, no boring old farts
will be there!

well its a punky reggae party
and its tonite
its a punky reggae party
and its alrite

a tip from a gypsy
she said "man you gettin tipsy"
hiding from reality
in your world of hypocrisy
in your world of hypocrisy
in your world of hypocrisy
in your world of hypocrisy
in your world of hypocrisy

let me tell you
a brother, a brother, a brother, a brother
a brother, a brother
We're looking for no trouble
But if you trouble trouble
We'll give it to you double
it takes a joyful sound
to make the world go round
it takes a joyful sound
so come and rock your bone

cause its a punky reggae party
and its tonite
well its a punky reggae party
and its alrite

a tip from a gypsy

hiding from reality
in your world of hypocrisy

http://www.last.fm/music/Steel+Pulse/_/Victims?autostart

Victims

While you a bubble
Pon dis ya riddim
I would like you to check yourself within
Open your mind and your heart
Limb by limb and part by part
Cause what you see
Is an angry man
Robbed of culture and his land
Left to toil the wilderness
Exploited by imperialists cause we are

CHORUS
Victims of the system
And we're fighting back
Imperialism
You're under attack
Oh oh oh
And we're fighting back
Oh oh
You're under attack

While you a bubble
Pon dis ya riddim
I would like you to check yourself within
Free up yourself from the claws
Of their rules and phoney laws
Cause we have found identity
To bring about our unity
Chains released from our minds
Colonialism left behind cause we are

CHORUS
Victims of the system
And we're fighting back
Imperialism
You're under attack
Oh oh oh
And we're fighting back
Oh oh
You're under attack

Pon de riddim bubbling
Storm of change is blowing
Yes we are demanding

We fighting back
We fighting back
We fighting back
Yes we fighting
And demanding

Cheers, thanks, this is most interesting.
The horribly corrupt satanic worshipers of demons are given the front running whilst the old colonialist corporations still run the show
The weather in Africa is the most manipulated on the planet, whilst the underground lakes of the Sahara could produce a self-sustaining breadbasket
Name one African ruler who isn't slave to some globalist Zionist corporation
Historically and pre-history, the African black man is always the slave and the one to be fucked over
