Does anyone else feel that they have a better understanding/view of the world (as it really is) because they are involved in the arts and using more of the creative mind???
Anyone who is not involved in the arts I would strongly suggest that you get involved. Start writing poems, play a musical instrument or take up painting. Something that involves emotional expression....
Its like being on a permanent high!!!!!

Aye.
I think that when you're involved in any of the arts,
you've automatically utilizing both parts of the brain.
Ie. you've got the brainless motoric memories *doing*
the arty-farty stuff but at the same time you've got the
"ooohh" and "ahhhhs" of childlike amazement at everything.
My extended family is all switched on (and we all play music).

Oh yes, but it takes work!
Learning a creative skill involves getting to 'know thyself' and er, improve thyself!
To my mind, solo pursuits like poetry or painting are bettered by things that can be collaborative, like music.
...but I don't think it's really important to be involved in 'the arts', particularly. You could apply the same effort and get the same rewards from other areas of life, if you're committed.

Thank you for your replies:
I dont think it really takes that much work. Freedom of expression can be as easy or as hard as one could make it. Just picking up an instrument or paint brush (regardless if you know the traditional techniques taught on how to play or paint) can be very rewarding, just making a noise or a mess with paint is so much fun and i think thats what a lot of people lack in their lives. Or the idea of fun changes at some point in our shift from child to adult and becomes 'Adult fun' e.g. going out with friends for a few drinks ect.. As people get older (and build their professional status on the 'world stage of life') seem to think that they become exempt from going splashing in puddles on a rainy day, playing with lego or going on rides at a theme park. Yes this might not be know traditionally as part of 'The Arts' (what ever that is) but I feel these activities are absolute necessities through the whole of life to be involved in.
Remembrance of childhood through child like activity is such a rewarding feeling, its like we never really grow up. Or am I alone on that one?????? ummmm

Watch ANY episode of Bob Ross's the "joy of painting" to see a grown adult seeing things through a childs eyes.
Bob is a Zen Master.
