On Sunday's 'Curb Your Enthusiasm,' Larry David was taking a "new pill" that caused him to urinate with excessive force.

One of the interesting things about "Curb Your Enthusiasm" is how Larry David came up with the name. As ever a superb viewer of his environment he said have you ever noticed people don't like seeing other people happy. They react negatively to seeing other people extremely happy and so the answer he decided was to "Curb Your Enthusiasm".

This is one of the few shows that has me laughing out loud, and is enjoyed by many many people. Maybe thats why some miserable people are blowing what essentially is a rewrite of an old comedy sketch of the crying madonna (used in the simpsons and only fools and horses and many other sketch shows) out of all proportion.

The idea of an "idol" is something everyone including Christians should really really think about.

Additionally Buddhist should think about this too.

Also Buddhist should really thing about the saying "if you meet the Buddha on the path , kill him" .... worshiping the Buddha is in fact counteractive to the path of Buddhism.


Idols are most often described as being made of wood, gold, metal or stone... and the main problem with "worshiping idols" is that what is worshiped is a temporary "image" (and thus NOT ABSOLUTE OR ULTIMATE). If something is temporary, it means it is not "Absolute".

The problem with focusing on physical idols is that people tend not to realize that the worship of "mental idols" is just as misleading! Idols within the mind made of just thought are actually even more persistant and misleading than idols made of physical substance!

So even if your religion bans the existance of visual images of "God", you in fact may still be influenced by mental idols which are promoted by your religion which are even more misleading!

And so I suggest that all supposed visual images of Christ are in fact idols... the images typically present a northern European with long brown hair and blue eyes. This is in fact an "Idol"! The only way to accept the existance of these images, sculptures, carvings is when you really realize they are idols representing ideas and symbolic concepts. The same goes for Buddhists. The only acceptance of various gold covered sculptures is to finally see them as "just pointers" toward a concept ... "worshiping" those sculptures themselves is misleading and detrimental!

It is my opinion that the only useful way to accept these images is to understand their deeper symbolic content. So the concept of Christ on the cross being pierced by the Spear of Destiny by the roman soldier in the general region of the liver can be related to the same exact symbolic concept represented within the ancient Greek myth of Prometheus chained to the mountains and the Eagle of Zeus eating his liver daily as punishment for Prometheus giving fire to humans (in the same way as Christ is the symbolic level representing the balancing stage of the snake's suggestion to humans to eat the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge!

It is an illusion to cling to (to use Buddhist terminology) visual images of Christ or Buddha ... these are biasing and limiting and should hopefully be seen as such. Perhaps such images are in fact useful to people within various levels of understanding. To one level of understanding the need for a visual symbol is needed and useful ... to another level, deeper details of the symbols are pointers towards *conceptual truths* regardless of whether some event happened within history or not.

If you fully understand that images of Christ are in fact merely images pointing towards an idea then you can safely use such images ... unfortunately many people "cling" to these images and thus become mislead into the typical fight about whether events were historical or not. This misleading can result in such strong "clinging " that any insult or confrontation results in strong aggressive counter-response. This is because the person is clinging to an image and not understanding the symbolism of the ideas!

Curb is still one of my favorite shows. i think the overall message is pretty positive...what i take away from it is that Larry, on the show, is basically a well-meaning guy but his own neurotic fears and selfish tendencies lead to him pissing people off and ending up is socially awkward situations. i think that's something everyone can relate to, and not a bad way of pointing out that if we'd get over ourselves and our fears and prejudices, our lives would be much more peaceful and harmonious.
