Why do you guys bother?
This is a serious thread for me.
I need help in convincing my sister not to do what she is about to do.
She doesn't know any better.
I will not be able to socialise with the word Mason being called out and used in conversation.
This topic may offend you.
But its more offensive to me that you think the breakdown of a sibling relationship is something to be joked about.

OK this post is by way of trying to help by analysing your situation - so don't go off the deep end begfore you've digested what I've written please.
I need help in convincing my sister not to do what she is about to do.Why - because it offends you? Aren't you disrespecting your sister in this?
She doesn't know any better.Looking in the mirror works both ways.
I will not be able to socialise with the word Mason being called out and used in conversation. So it does offend you and its actually a me, me, me situation rather than concern for your sister and your nephew.
This topic may offend you.Not at all.
But its more offensive to me that you think the breakdown of a sibling relationship is something to be joked about.Absolutely not but it seems to me that you are hell bent on breaking down this relationship over something which really has nothing to do with you. Its her son and her decision what she calls him. Is it not?

No, she has simply stated "I like the name", she read it in a name book. She does not know of the Freemasons or their history.
Looking in the mirror works both ways.
So it does offend you and its actually a me, me, me situation rather than concern for your sister and your nephew.
The word mason makes me feel angry. I do no wish to change all my beliefs and morals due to a whimsical decision.
Not at all.
Absolutely not but it seems to me that you are hell bent on breaking down this relationship over something which really has nothing to do with you. Its her son and her decision what she calls him. Is it not?
Absolutely it is. But there are consequences to decisions. The consequence here is that I will not be able to be the loving uncle/brother I want to be.
Cheers
Its simple really. Its not that I wish to change her mind. Its that I want to offer her a basic explanation of my opinion, and that there will be consequences of the decision.

In all seriousness; if the name is that important to you then why not just talk to her and ask her to reconsider.
Alternatively you could just for one minute, put the prejustice to one side, and try to find out a little more about Freemasonry.
You mentioned guys at work who 'hate you', is it because they are Freemasons or simply that they don't like you. Do you hate them because they are Freemasons or because you just don't like them?
I'm not sure what country you are in but if your sister named her son after a player in a local football (soccer) team that you didn't support; would you still be as anti?
As regards showing her an anti-mason video; how is that putting a balanced argument to her?
Why not suggest MASUN which is a French name for a stone worker?

A CRAFTSMAN you mean, some one proficient in working Stone & actually builds structures with Stone.
As a opposed to a freemason who is proficient only in the wallet & the wearing of jewels, kind of like a christmas tree.
The christmas tree non mason masons.

I have. I do not want to have to tell her I will not be calling her son Mason. Or that If I hear the word, I will end the conversation. She is irrational and will not understand my view if I tell her this.
Alternatively you could just for one minute, put the prejustice to one side, and try to find out a little more about Freemasonry.
I know enough. I do not need/want any extra information. I just want some basic videos that explain their corrupt ways.
You mentioned guys at work who 'hate you', is it because they are Freemasons or simply that they don't like you. Do you hate them because they are Freemasons or because you just don't like them?
Either, either. I do not like secrets, I do not like people who keep secrets. I do not like Freemasons. I do not like people who suck up to them because they have power/control.
I'm not sure what country you are in but if your sister named her son after a player in a local football (soccer) team that you didn't support; would you still be as anti?
No. Any name is fine. Except Mason. I would prefer Adolf over Mason.
As regards showing her an anti-mason video; how is that putting a balanced argument to her?
I do not want to present a balanced argument, I want her to understand THAT I DO NOT LIKE MASONS. Is it really that hard to understand?
Why not suggest MASUN which is a French name for a stone worker?
That is ridiculous. The spelling does not change the phoenetic sound of the word.
Again, simple.
Do not try to change my mind.

Hmm, I feel kinda sorry for all those Artists, Carpenters, Painters, Plasterers, Joiners, Masons, Bricklayers, Stione workers, Blacksmiths, Jewellers etc (all of whom are "Craftsmen" as they learn and practise a "craft") that your little made-up definition leaves out.
This of course being what the word "Craftsman" actually means in the real world. A craftsman or craftswoman is an artisan who practises a handicraft or trade.

Free Mason is, one has to admit, an oxymoronic term, and although this society is an open secret one is often met with a deafening silence when some pretty ugly accusations are made. But almost exactly the same mistakes are made by those who are clearly confused about Freemasonry (and this would be seriously funny if it wasn’t really a tragic comedy). In their unbiased opinions Freemason do not act naturally, and are clearly hiding the truth as something is found missing in their answers. The exact estimate of numbers involved on either side are a constant variable, but when left alone together they make more noise than a peacekeeper missile. A lot of liquid gas. But this is old news. I’m typing this in Microsoft Works, and as I’m running out ideas, I think my only choice is to come to a rolling stop. Original copies of this are available in paperback.

Its simple really. Its not that I wish to change her mind. Its that I want to offer her a basic explanation of my opinion, and that there will be consequences of the decision. Thanks for your reply. My cousins eldest is about to produce her fourth child with her third man. From a family perspective its a selfish decision, from a home perspective its wrong and from a financial consideration its also wrong. Actually she's being downright irresponsible. Everyone in the family thinks this and we all know that there is going to be pain which will impact on all of us at one stage or another. Nobody is going to tell her though and we are keeping our individual feelings to ourselves (distress in some closer to the scene of the accident). Thats because the mother and child are the most important. I am realy sorry to say it but my original analysis suggested you were being rather selfish and I still believe that to be the case.
A mothers relationship with her first child is extremely important. You really, IMHO, shouldn't be putting pressure on that relationship with your "consequences". Suggesting there will be "consequences" is really quite threatening and you are forcing her to make a choice whether you think you are or not. Don't upset your sister or your relationship over the name she has chosen for her child. It isn't worth it. Sometimes we all have to accept a little pain in order to enhance the happiness of a loved one. Give the poor kid a nickname and use that. It'll probably get called Mase anyway which, hopefully, you can accept.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

By help I mean medical professional help. Suck it up and get over yourself it's a name nothing more than a sound. Putting a name your sister calls her son in the way of your family relationships. Like I said if your that touchy she's as well off having you out of her young childs life. Enjoy your life of ignorance and paranoia what a fearfull place you've decided to occupy.

i think its an awesome name.. Mason..good solid sounding name. its not a rare name either. the fact that you are completely neurotic and paranoid is your problem, no-one elses.
Mason is a somewhat common first name for men (#632 out of 1220) and an even more common last name for both men and women (#135 out of 88799). (1990 U.S. Census)
http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/1/Mason
Well of course it doesnt MEAN anything.
If it doesnt MEAN anything then there is no reason to get worked up is there? so either it does mean something or it doesnt..you invalidated your argument yourself(that the name is so offensive you couldnt hear it spoken indicates it has strong meaning) or you are mentally all over the place.
