How often when somebody comes up with a great idea, does the question inevitably become "How much will it cost?"
If we could shake off the dogma of the monetary system do you think that we could actually make much faster progress.
As an example, I develop websites, if I change my perspective to "Is it the right thing to do?" compared to "How much will I get for it?", then i can look at each site from a totally different viewpoint and only take on projects that are going to make me happy.
I feel that this could be a really good way of working, imagine the progress the human race could make and how much more freedom you would have without the money being an issue.
How would you change your perspective?

i agree to this.
"whats in it for me!" the question of all question alongside how much will it cost.
I,ve often thought about this wondering where we would all be now if those 2 phrases had never been spoken.

i half agree with this thread.... as there is just as many people out there doing things, making things to benefit mankind all for free.... then you get the people that exploit those people and turn what ever it is they are doing into a " money making thing "

This has already been proposed by Jacque Fresco and Peter Joseph in the venus project. I'm guessing you watched zeitgeist addendum and this is what brought you to ask this?
Regardless, you will find a lot of people who still like to criticize it without at the same time putting forward any solutions of their own.
It's being discussed in the awakening section.

I haven't watched Zeitgeist in years, although the idea of a resource based economy seems ok, depending on who is in control of the resources.
I just feel that until we make the changes to our own perspectives, of how we can make life more humane, and begin to implement those changes, everything will stay the same.
If we move to doing things because we enjoy doing it and expect no monetary reward the whole world perspective would slowly change.

My instincts are always to think "Is it the right thing to do?" as opposed to "How much will I get for it?", but then that's probably one way to end up dirt poor...
The Capitalist world changes for no man (apparently..), and it will not change it's ulterior perspective that everything has a Price, and when one person wants something another person has, the primary issue is Cost.
It's unfortunate, but that's (for the moment, maybe not always we hope) the way it is.

Well the Romans came up with the idea of the steam engine and made a functioning model of one.
They didn't bother trying to develop the idea because the emperor said "but, what would we do with all the slaves?"
So the industrial revolution had to wait for another 2000 years.
and they had all those straight roads waiting to be turned into rail road tracks.
Shame.
