Very one-sided reporting on the tv this am. All happy to be obeying the man, for the oxymoron of 'giving up our liberties for more security'.

They say it has the 'anonymity of thousand of people going through every day'.

Won't be quite so anonymous though if you are famous, bet they take a hard copy of them for the canteen wall!

Generally i dont like new technology and its invasions of our privacy. However i see some fun we can have with this so we can turn the tables a little. If i go abroad im going to rub myself in the loo to get roused so they have to be confronted with my huge hardon. Its not often you can get legaly naked in public and thres no need to feel intimidated by being naked infront of the black clad world police. Its all about turning negativity into a positive. Id use it to show myself off a bit rather like david did on thecover of I am me I am free. Lets all show how free we realy are in th face of these fascists and show em were not scared by going through with hard ons or love eggs in! :)

lol, they would probably make you take the love eggs out and then give you an anal probe!

Seriously though, they have metal detectors already so I see no reason for this, also I wouldn't go through one, people might see my cellulite

I've been through one of these scanners. Didn't bat an eyelid.

Why the hysteria?

Would you rather have some big burly bloke pat you down, or step through one of these machines?

This doesn't bother me one bit. The prospect of brain scanners would though!

Why the hysteria?

It's another literal stripping of our private spheres. Another invasion of our personal space.

And why are they doing it?

9/11....

Which was of course an inside job.

To combat islamic terrorism, which again was a creation of the western intelligence agencies.

As for the brain scanners. Don't expect them to announce their existence before they are officially introduced. Just watch what you think at all times...

Fair enough - any particular reason why?

Is it the thought of someone seeing a grainy xray image of you for a few seconds or something else?

Sorry, IMO someone physically searching you is more of an invasion of privacy than stepping though an xray scanner? No?

The only personal searches I can remember were with the magic wands. I haven't flown anywhere for a while and I don't intend to.

My point is that this is intended to get people to accept infringements of their personal sphere in the name of combatting a terrorism that was planned and created by the same people who are now busy stripping away not just our freedom but our humanity.

This is slightly concerning. It's clearly a stepping stone. Its just another version of "if youve got nothing to hide, what are you worried about?"

Doesn't scan for infectious diseases though does it, something that could wipe out the majority of the UK.

Catch one bloke with contraband?

A crock of s##t.

TB CDif Diphtheria Plague AIDs MRSA

Don't smoke & kill yourself slowly, we TPTB will bring numerous exotic diseases to the UK to put you & yours at risk, your children will require 35 vaccinations though, all good for our, I mean THE economy hey what.

I hope the phrase "totalitarian tiptoe" holds some meaning for you...otherwise look up the frog in the pot analogy.

When people are mutely compliant and desensitized by guards ordering them to walk through these new scanners, THEN we will see brain scanners wheeled out to detect "hostile thoughts".

They are prepping the tech as we speak:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/3069960/New-airport-screening-could-read-minds.html

And while you will be standing up saying "no, this is wrong, this is a complete invasion of privacy!" there will be those who say "I don't see what your problem is, I don't have anything to hide, doesn't bother me one bit. Why the hysteria?"

You can't just stand up to protest these things when it directly affects you - you have to do it on principle.

anyone care about the radiation exposure?

they also said radiation in regualr x-rays was safe, and later found out they were injuring unborn children in the process

the truth is they haven't had any long term studies on intentional radiation exposure and it's affect on the human body...we are merely part of experimental technology as usual, only to be part of a lawsuit for radiation damage 20 years from now...i like how this guy says someone can go through 5000 times and be fine, cause the radiation is tiny

Have you seen BBC News coverage of this? The airport's talking-head 'Sarah', she looks like the child of the Cheshire Cat mating with Marty Feldman, what the hell is she so happy for, this is a disaster for our liberties!

Only a matter of time before this is compulsory by being the only option, and many people with natural reserve or similar reasons, will be be brow beaten into not travelling. So much for our liberties!

If these machines work using the same technology as x-rays then I would be very worried about a)working around them long term and b) repeated use as a result of frequent travel. X-ray elecromagnetic radiation is high up there on the spectrum. So I would not be happy. Repeated exposure to this type of radiation at this level of intensity is harmful to living cells.

Comments are hilarious!

I think it would be very embarrassing to go throughout the scanner. But if it is going to keep us safe from terrorists then it is worth it and essential. I'm sure the person seeing the images will see so many every day that they will not be in the least bit interested in our naked bodies.
Roy Woolnough, Watford

So what fucking Terrorists is he referring to? Will Gordon Brown, Tony Blair and Obama be going through this thing then?

If I was seeing naked bodies all day I would be VERY interested, so what a crock of shite this dickhead is spouting. Funny that this gets published eh?

From the manufacturers website:

Q: How much radiant energy is a person exposed to?

A: Each full body scan of the Secure 1000 produces approximately 3 microREMs of emission. This is equivalent to the exposure every person receives each five minutes from naturally occurring background environmental radioactivity.

Q: Is background radiation exposure really a good comparison?

A: Yes, because Secure 1000 scanning and background radiation both expose a large portion of the body to a very low level of X-rays. The only difference is that background radiation has slightly higher X-ray energy resulting in deeper penetration.

I do take your point. All I've heard at work and on the radio though is people going crazy about the prospect of being seen 'naked' - which I don't really understand. No mention whatsoever of any other objection.

In Geneva I was given the option of taking my shoes off and joining a queue to be searched, or joining a much shorter queue for the x-ray machine. I chose the machine. I believe they have been using the system for some time, basically to take the extra strain off customs when there's an influx of passengers.

Security technology like this will only keep on getting more sophisticated and intrusive, as long as the masses are perpetually fooled into thinking it's for their own safety.

...I guess this is just another step.... Tell the public you're putting brain scanners in lampposts and there would be mass outrage. Implement the same system incrementally whilst constantly bombarding the public with propaganda about how much danger they're in and eventually they'll be crying out for the lamppost scanners!

I was just thrown by the whole naked issue.
