Madonna about to adopt a second Malawi orphan

Madonna is set to adopt a 13-month-old Malawian orphan called Mercy, it has been claimed.

The singer is reported to have been given permission to take the little girl as a sister to David Banda, who she adopted from the country last year.

Madonna met 10 girls at the Kondanani Orphan Care Centre at Blantyre last October before deciding and, according to sources, "had her heart set" on another girl, Grace, until the child's extended family objected.
Now the star has been told she can adopt Mercy instead, and will file papers next February before taking her home two months later.

It follows months of legal wrangling over the adoption of David, which will not be finalised until January. There was controversy after it emerged that David's father, Yohane, was still alive.

A family source said: "Madonna's over the moon that she's been told she can take Mercy. She didn't want another complicated adoption.

"Mercy is a beautiful baby girl. She's so joyful and happy and giggles every time she's picked up.

Madonna just loves the way she claps her hands and laughs constantly. She has huge, dancing eyes. Madonna calls her her smiling angel."

Well actually I think what the rich do, does concern the poor. We are not commodities to be bought and sold. Rich people's play things, regardless of our race.

The child she bought before had living family. Her money would have been better used helping the entire village. I believe she made a donation to the orphanage. The child plucked from poverty and premature death certainly to grow up in god only knows what kind of home, but most celebrities and their children end up snorting coke. And I would say the little boy is a prime candidate, for the press will never forget (nor let him) where he came from.

If the rich want to ease their conscience then spend their wealth on entire villages not screwing up one persons mind. This is a fashion statement.

You should never take children away from their cultural roots - black, white or any colour inbetween.

Most adopted people seek out their roots when they are old enough to do so.

As for the cut-off point financially, I believe adoptions should be dealt within their communities. Where possible children who are adopted should be adopted within their local communities. There is enough wealth in the world for this to be achievable. In such case as Madonna her community of interest would be mega rich celebrities and as they dont tend to HAVE to give up their children then mega rich celebrities either have their own children or support poor communities.
