The European Union is an opaque and monolithic bureaucracy. If there are democratic principles governing the EU, then that is something that is not readily apparent through the anonymity of its operations.
Are we facing a grave danger in that the EU surreptitiously - behind a political smoke screen - is trying to establish the euro as the new petro currency?

The true reason for the Amero and the formation of an American Union could be a defense against the euro taking over as the new petro currency. The U.S. has a large import from Asia. That too could be a defense against the euro. By maintaining a strong bond between Asia and the U.S. dollar, the euro will have more difficulty taking over.

"The euro has also gained in importance as an invoicing and settlement currency in international trade, with an increasing number of countries pricing and settling their exports of goods and services in euro. This should not come as a surprise given that the euro area is the world’s largest trading block. At the same time the euro’s use for invoicing commodities is not as yet widespread and, in particular, the invoicing currency in crude oil trading remains the US dollar."
"Let me close by emphasising that we are living in an ever changing world. The recent enlargement of the European Union, and the future enlargement of the euro area that will follow it, mean that the economic and financial structures that underlie the ECB’s monetary policy strategy will not remain constant."

Was the fall of the Soviet Union made happen because of the plan to create the euro as the new petro currency?
Enlargement of the eurozone is currently a policy of the European Central Bank, enforced by EU treaties.
Let's look at former east-block nations in relation to the enlargement of the eurozone:
# 2 Historical enlargements
* 2.1 Greece
* 2.2 Slovenia
# 3 Future enlargements
* 3.1 Cyprus
* 3.2 Malta
* 3.3 Slovakia
* 3.4 Bulgaria
* 3.5 Estonia
* 3.6 Lithuania
* 3.7 Latvia
* 3.8 Hungary
* 3.9 Poland
* 3.10 Czech Republic
* 3.11 Romania

And what about this lurking monster?
"The Western European Union (WEU) is a partially dormant European defence and security organization"
From: Western European Union - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Is the future purpose of WEU to defend the euro as a petro currency, just as the U.S. defense today is protecting the petro dollar?

I think the drive is towards a one world currency. Amero and Euro are just stepping stones. The reasons you argue are part of the methodology to gain acceptance and provide discussion for.

If the plan is to have one world currency, then the Bank for International Settlements will be a probable controller. BIS is situated in Switzerland who is not an EU member. Will UN be involved in this, and if so, what is the relation between BIS and UN? And that is just one of the connections to investigate. Complicated stuff. :(

Thank you. The whole conspiracy research field is so incredibly messy. That's very frustrating. So I try to make sweeping connections. As the Merovingian said in the Matrix movie: "Ok, let's see where this goes..."
