Czech president's new treaty snag (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/8297757.stm)

The Eurosceptic Czech President, Vaclav Klaus, wants a new two-sentence footnote to be added to the EU's Lisbon Treaty before signing it, Sweden says

A result me thinks :)

Surely if anything is added to the Treaty, everyone needs to re-ratify!

Also of interest was the final paragraph;
The treaty has a reference to the charter - which covers a wide range of EU citizens' rights - and the charter will become legally binding once Lisbon enters into force, although the UK has an opt-out from it.

The UK can opt out from the Human Rights Charter?
Why would UK politicians want to opt out of a Human Rights Charter?

I was thinking the same.

Something along the road, they have planned no doubt.

interesting.

also,if the treaty really wouldve2change even a word in it,itd be dead.
but itll prolly be more like what germanys supreme court did,in order to make it comply.

The UK has never needed one, who needs a damn piece of paper to say what your rights are and does that mean anything not written down in that you then lose rights to?

Its offensive.

Good point. The US Bill of Rights gives no rights, it merely serves as a reminder to the populace that "these are the inalienable God-given rights that government should not ever touch". Thus, the fact that they are infringing upon almost all of them is a clear leading indicator towards tyranny; it is not meant to protect anything - ultimately, that's YOUR job.

Having a document like the European Charter or the UN Charter is NOT the same as the Bill of Rights or the Declaration of Independence.

A charter is the grant of authority or rights, stating that the granter formally recognizes the prerogative of the recipient to exercise the rights specified. It is implicit that the granter retains superiority (or sovereignty), and that the recipient admits a limited (or inferior) status within the relationship.

So if your rights are 'enshrined' in a charter, the government is acknowledging their superiority over you, and your inferiority to government. And they are saying "you have only the rights that we will grant to you".
