...as today I have given schmoking weed!!!!
I've been smoking the herb everyday for the last 15 years and have finally come to realise that its something I need to stop.
Anyone else on here done something similar, and if so, what kind of 'cold turkey' can I expect??

No cold turkey at all, gave it up years ago myself after using it for around 8 years. One of the big changes you will find is you start getting more done heh.
I have been smoking the herb for nearly 20 years with a few breaks here and there. You definitely get more done, you also find that you have spare time on your hands which you used to fill with getting stoned. It takes a bit of time getting used to, but it does feel nice having a break. I prefer to smoke socially more these days than alone as I tend to think too much when alone. Never used to bother me when I was younger, but as you go through life you tend to have more to think about. Much prefer a social gathering and a laugh.....
Good luck with it. Not a bad thing having a break, getting stoned all day, everyday isn't good imo, and I have found it to be psychologically addictive as well when used in this way. All things in moderation.....even this forum:D

You will face some psychological cold turkey albeit mild. For the day or so afterwards a nagging 'bored' restlesness sets in. You should relate this to the fact you've just given up and therefore its expected and then move onto thinking about something else. After a day or so this feeling goes away.
The next trick is staying clear of others smoking it usually. If you start again the tendancy will be to smoke again for a while. But giving up becomes easier after you have done it a few times.
This from someone who smoked constantly for years. I'm not sure its the same for the lighter users.
After a week or so you feel 'considerably' better than you probably have for years.

You will notice that you remember dreams a lot more vividly once off it.
I managed 3 months this year but back on it again now, want to stop before September tho, smoked it for far too long.

You lot are lucky. Wish it was that easy for me.
Although the last few times and this time I've not had too many problems (withdrawal symtons) Been almost two weeks now without any, due to lack of money and I need to know if it get's better in time.
Used to be real bad stopping and the withdrawal...hardly any sleep for about a week, nightmares, no appetite, impotence, loss of musical creativity, chain smoking cigarettes, anger grrrr, paranoia, verbal arguments, severe headaches( that's the worst) no energy, not tidying up for over a week. I can exercise better, lift more weight, when stoned.

If it wasn't for the fact he smoked pot he probably would of killed someone outside the ring along time ago.
Maybe it's what genes you have the effects of smoking and then not smoking.
I was smoking about 30 a day for years. I know others who smoked much less and said they didn't have much trouble giving up. I usually feel so crap after a week without I start again.

Hi basilbrook,
To fight off a habit you need to find out what is attracting you, to it! :)

I agree eternal....it's about the genes.
Been smoking for 13 yrs now...virtually a daily thing apart from when I travel but I don't get withdrawls at all
It's a rarity that anyone can tell when I'm stoned.....have learned over the years to harmonise the stonedness with action...works quite well, however these days I reserve it for a night after working/studying...the benefits I have got out of this wonderful plant are endless.
Eating it on the other hand....lol, well the moss grows under me:D

hey dude! good on ya! it may be hard, but stick to ur guns and you will be fine!
with withdrawals-it depend on how much (i'm assuming chronically) u smoked, and what kind of smoke natural or hydies- coz of the chems, hydies make u "adicted", if u smoke naturals u shouldn't get withdrawal symtoms- but that stuff is hard to come by these days. i recommend you to stay completely away from stressful situations, other smokers. taking up other activities might help too, to releave that intence "boredom". if u find it really bad for the beginning, sleeping pills might help-u can get some help from doctors too. actually there is a self hypnosis cd series that deals with the symptoms of marijuana withdrawls. the thing is it is mostley emotional addiction (which chemically and the way it works in the brain is similar to a heroin addiction), but it dosn't seem to be a physical addiction like heroin though, so if ur will to quit and stay quit is strong enough then you will be fine mate.
"If it wasn't for the fact he smoked pot he probably would of killed someone outside the ring along time ago."
i understand that feeling, alot of ppl have done me wrong (especially in the past couple of years) weed probably saved them from my retaliation-who can be bothered fighting (even when u really pissed off) when their stoned?

QUITTERS
You'll be back after the first nuke. And of course you will have to supply the kids as well. I would recommend for you to buy some seeds and to start growing some weed as soon as possible.

lol :) Well, I do believe weed is a efficient way of enhancing the mind in some ways, but clearly also a way of damaging the mind.
Smoking weed for too long will simply slow down the mind I think. The effects of weed might become permanent. Also it ruins the balance of the mind. It might become harder to think fast, or slow down the mind, without using weed or other "drugs" to help the mind doing that.
Something well worth considering I think. Also it makes for better health to not smoke weed, unless weed it used as medicine to counter some kind of illness :) I do believe weed is also very much anti boner as well by the way. Anyone who can confirm this?

Hey basilbrook
Good luck with it all, I'm sure you'll find plenty of other stuff to be doing to keep your mind off the urge to smoke :)
I've managed to give up for periods of time, but choose to have one or two in the evening at the mo, just for chilling purposes of course, lol!!;) :p Am hoping to knock it on the head soon too though, I need a break from it.
PS: Illuminotti & cf24, I'm getting confused with your avs now, lol!!

I don't smoke enough!! :D:D:D
FUCKING RIGHT ME EITHER!
But to the original poster of this message basilbrook ...I did quit cigarettes cold turkey after over 15 years... addiction is a myth don't believe in it and it doesn't affect you for clinical evidence of addiction not being real read Great Psychological Experiments of the 20th Century: Opening Skinners Box by Lauren Slater, particularly the rat park experiment.
