Roll eyes? lol Hope you don't think I was being sarcastic, I really find this stuff interesting and read up on it whenever I can. The Fertility Story is one of the best at that time IMHO.

Thanks for the other link...
Yup, Sumer is so fascinating! The ancient artifacts of the gods coming on these winged discs looks almost like a fairytale, like something you would see in a children's Saturday morning cartoon (do they still have those?). Then you remember... this is ANCIENT! Still, to me, I never leave out the possibility that they could have all been high. lol Back then the Fertile Crescent was really fertile... who knows what could have grown. Doesn't take much for man to believe he's flying and tasting music.

The opium poppy, Papaver somniferum L. (Papaveraceae), is one of the oldest medicinal plants in recorded history. It is believed that the plant originated in Asia Minor, but the exact time and place of discovery are unknown. The Sumerian culture flourished between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers in southern Iraq from 4000-3000 BC, and the first mention of the opium poppy is found on Sumerian clay tablets inscribed in Cuneiform script in about 3000 BC. These tablets were found at Nipper, a spiritual center of the Sumerians located south of Baghdad, and described the cultivation of the opium poppy, including the collection of poppy juice in the early morning, with the subsequent production of opium. The Sumerians named opium "Gil," ("happiness"), a term still applied to opium in certain world cultures today, and produced an ideogram of the opium poppy known as "Gil Hul" ("joy plant"). The Assyrians subsequently named poppy juice "aratpa-pal", and it has been speculated that the Latin word "Papaver" (botanical genus of the opium poppy) is derived from this etymological origin. The Assyrians, like the Sumerians, also collected poppy juice early in the morning (via scraping the poppy capsule with an iron scoop) and placed these collections in earthen pots. After the conquest of Assyria and Babylonia by the Persians, mention of the cultivation of the opium poppy and preparation of opium subsequently appeared in the sixth century BC(1-8).

However i feel that the artifacts that have been found and the many links to the heavens and astrological evidence and the ability to construct such glorious structures is to substantial to say the whole culture and beliefs was drug induced ;)

I think the drugs may have helped mankind earlier in time. Imagine a human before the Neolithic age taking in vast amounts of natural pharma lol. To put myself in the shoes of such a person puts it into perspective for me. I would feel "happy" not knowing why, feeling like their may be more to life than just running away from big animals and hunting smaller animals, maybe I'd have some kind of vision about the plants I took in... can I manipulate them? What about the seeds, and I stick them back in the ground and make more plants to enjoy? How will I remember this stuff? Maybe I can make notations in something, look at it again and remember my vision of the friendly guy teaching me to things. lol
Of course, they couldn't have been all stoned out of their minds to invent writing and mathematics, so I hear ya on that one. :D
I found this intresting.......... :)
The Worship in Old Testament History:
In the Levitical ordinances delivered to the Israelites by Moses there are stern prohibitions of Molech-worship (Lev 18:21; 20:2-5). Parallel to these prohibitions, although the name of the god is not mentioned, are those of the Deuteronomic Code where the abominations of the Canaanites are forbidden, and the burning of their sons and daughters in the fire (to Molech) is condemned as the climax of their wickedness (Dt 12:31; 18:10-13

I do not agree %100 with Mr. Heiser, but I still give him a 'solid A' for his effort. Wait until you read or hear the 'Two Yahwehs' Hypothesis. lol
The SupraAnthropomorphic YHWH, and the Source-Energy Yahweh. This is in the 'Godhead' of the Old Testament' section= a video/powerpoint.
