President Thabo Mbeki on Friday acknowledged that crime is a problem and is affecting the fabric of society.

He announced significant measures which will be introduced before the 2010 World Cup. These include expanding the SA Police Service to bring its total strength to over 180 000.

well after the australian olympic games the police division they created there never went away, and they had powers the regular police didn't.
i wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happened here.

I LOVE YOU

This is really contradicting as to what is happening. I'm referring to the current state of the police force - crimes everywhere and not a cop in sight

If the educate the current police force better, than I don't think they will need this new staff.

Yes I agree i'ts going to become a police state - maybe Zimbabwe the second

THANK YOU

The way I see it they are trying - and doing a good job - at
making the police seem incompetent. As not all are useless.
I guess it just adds to the chaos and the infuriation of people
and adding to the crime we experience. Maybe this is a push
to introduce Martial Law? I have heard on radio shows people
calling for the Defence force to take control of crime (problem-
reaction-solution)

Not to mention the whole Robert Mc Bride saga.
McBride: I was not drunk (http://www.news24.com/News24/South_Africa/News/0,,2-7-1442_2059153,00.html)

Johannesburg - Controversial metro police chief Robert McBride was not drunk when he crashed his car near Centurion last year, he told the media on Wednesday.
