Fidel Castro Dead? Not according to the State Dept. Fidel Castro dies and Fidel Castro Dead stories have lit up the internet over the past 24 hours.
Cuba's foreign minister, in an effort to quiet the rumors, made a statement yesterday saying that Castro was is in good health.
The US state dept tells FOX news that the rumors are false and stem from a meeting of Cuban officials getting together to discuss how to handle it when the Cuban dictator does leave this earth.
The rumor seemingly started on Wall Street and was largely propagated by self proclaimed gossip gangstar Perez Hilton.
In Cuba, officials remained tightlipped about Castro's condition.
"Fidel is doing very well and is disciplined in his recovery process," Cuban foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque told reporters in Brazil on Thursday. Perez Roque insisted Castro maintains "permanent" contact with members of the government party in Cuba.
Well if the state dept told Fox news that Castro is still alive, then its gotta be true..right???

prepare for havana to be like miami in a few weeks then after his brothers sells out to the US.
Castro ended up turning Cuba into the very thing he revolted against.
i lived in the old town of havana (ppl advice against this heheh - fear sux!) for a few weeks over a year ago. some very lovely ppl there who are living with such crappy oppressive rules.
lots of prostitution, no work and 2 currencies - one for the natives and one for visitors - you would not believe the difference in ammount. 50p is a hell of a lot to a local. locals not allowed to leave cuba unless married out or invited out due to a skill. I knew this wonderful women who married a south african she did not love just so she could escape - a real tragic story.
saying all that havana is a place like no other but i for one wont lose any sleep if he is dead.

natives. they live with an extremely low value currency but visitors cannot use this currency and have to use the "visitors currency".

either he's still alive or he's dead and the authorities in Cuba haven't publicly stated that he's dead yet!
I think Castro was probably very good for the first few years in power and then things started to go a bit sour. For example, Cuba was the first country to declare equal rights for women I believe...
You can't have the same person in power for that long and expect things to stay going well, you need new blood and new ideas to keep society perminently revolutionised.
