Do you meditate?
As beings we are merely attached to our brains, and it's mind still requires our stimulus in order to run.
Sleep seems to be a function - a program which like all programs has a trigger. The question is, what exactly is wrong with you, is the program of "sleep" not installed properly aka mental illness, or is there something that inhibits you from accessing the trigger to the program of sleep?
Meditation helps to lower your brainwaves, which avoids stress, anxiety, fears, doubt, disbelief etc. But at the core of meditation is the ability to connect with your higher self to ask for- and receive answers from.
Hence in meditation, your mind will not only become very comfortable and relaxed enough to technically fall asleep easily but it will also provide the answer as to why you can't sleep.
You can find a lot of results in a google search, confirming what I'm saying here, that meditation can cure insomnia.

If you wanna kill insomnia, you must
1. avoid all caffeine
2. never go to bed hungry
3. have some sex a couple of hours before to make your muscles relax
4. avoid all foods with sugar
Have you tried these health care "pills" with chamomille and melissa extracts? Six times as strong as the tea and you avoid the peeing part.
I put on ylang ylang and benzoin oil on my body before I go to bed, and it has a deep relaxing effect. My dreams get more intense and I feel so good when waking up. I totally recommend it. It does work.

Go to bed at exactly the same time each night, and awake the same time each morning. Set an alarm. NO sleeping in, even if you didn't fall asleep as early as you would like. Only lay on your bed when you want to sleep, do not nap during the day, do not rest on your bed. Sleep for 6hours MAX each night.
Follow these steps and in a week I'm quite sure you will sleep much better :) You could then after a week or a week and a half increase to 7 or possibly 8 hours sleep a night.
The trick is to only associate your bed with sleep, to get into a routine and to be slightly more tired as each night of the regime continues. Your body should start to appreciate all the time it can get asleep.
Let me know how it works for you :)

i never have insomnia, i can sleep when i want anytime of the day.
just my opinion.
1) never drink any tea, coffee, cola
2) dont eat any processed food or any sugar even much sugary fruits
3) 2-3 hours before you go to sleep stop eating anything else, eat only kefir or yogurt, or fish oil.
4) the place you will be sleeping should be totally dark, well ventilated, and for my taste slightly cold.
Good luck.

Got Insomnia: Perhaps You Need a Gallbladder Cleanse
Monday, July 13, 2009 by: Kim Evans
http://www.naturalnews.com/026606_gallblad...nia_health.html
Chronic insomnia has to be one of the most annoying health problems around. Imagine not being able to fall asleep or stay asleep for nights on end. Your work will suffer, as will your general happiness and contentment. Unfortunately, 35 million Americans suffer from long-term insomnia, and slightly fewer experience insomnia occasionally. The medical establishment offers drugs to sedate you, and for mild cases some melatonin or sleep-inducing herbs like chamomile can help. But those with chronic insomnia might want to consider the root cause, and that often relates to your gallbladder.
In Chinese medicine, the gallbladder and sleep are closely connected, and problems with the gallbladder often manifest as sleep problems. Problems with the gallbladder can also be manifested in the shoulders, which can be felt as tight shoulder muscles, or even seen as feelings of resentment. In Chinese medicine, each organ is also related to a specific emotion and the gallbladder is commonly associated with resentment, which is essentially anger at a wrong that has been done to you.
Problems with the gallbladder are actually quite common, as mainstream 21st century dietary habits create them with ease. Diets with meat, white flour, and processed foods do the trick quite well. It's also theorized that a tiny bacteria or parasite might be at the center of each gallstone and that the body tries to contain the filth by wrapping cholesterol and bile around it, thus creating the stones.
Some experts think that most of the adult population has gallstones, although most don't know it. If your doctor finds them first, although it's rare for medical doctors to check the gallbladder for insomnia, your doctor will often recommend you have the entire organ removed. About half a million people have this done in the U.S. each year. Unfortunately, that sets most of them up for digestive problems and a much higher likelihood of being overweight, because your gallbladder stores the bile that helps your body digest fat.
A much easier way to remove those stones is to do an overnight gallbladder cleanse. The most common and effective gallbladder cleanse around involves drinking a couple concoctions of Epsom salts, followed by a drink of lemon juice and olive oil. While drinking lemon juice and olive oil sounds awful, it's really not that bad. Drinking the Epsom salts however, really is that bad. But when it's over, most agree that it was worth it. The next morning, you'll find the toilet filled with gallstones and if you had insomnia, there's a decent chance it will be flushed away too.

Ingredients:
1000-12000mg Inositol
1000mg Calcium
1000mg Magnesium
Method:
Crush all ingredients together to form a powder, then stir into warmed
milk. Drink along with one B-group vitamin 20-30 minutes before going to bed.
Pop a couple of drops of either Lavender or Orange essential Oil on your pillow, and if you are not sending out Zzzzz's within 30 minutes of going to bed, then the only hope you have left is a sledge-hammer in the hands of a skilled operator! :D

I've delt with insomnia a few times, most recently about a month ago. I was awake for five days and was working ten hour days running a chainsaw. It was a real challenge.
It's all mental/energetics. I did not want to go do the job as it was away from my family and the guy I was working with was so uptight that I was taking on his tension.
What is bothering you in your life? Make so changes and you should be fine.

I have had it for many years too. It's really not good.:(
Try these things:
1: exercise go jogging at around 8, 9 or ten. Jog for atleast an hour.
2:do press ups in the evening, stay consistent eg do sets of 20 or 30 eg.
3:have a hot bath after all of the above, you will feel so tired by the end of it trust me! And read boring books!
Make a small pillow out of hops and trow a small bag of levander in there.
You can use this pillow inside/instead/on your original pillow. These herbs induce sleepiness and smell very nice.
It is always extremely nice to hop in to fresh bedsheets or to have your pillow a few degrees colder.
Also make sure no light is touching your skin while you sleep (esp you eyes), this might inhibit melatonin production.
Your mattress should easily circulate air as excessive heat will disrupt your dreams and sleep cycle.
Air! have lots of fresh air in the bedroom
You could try to take a hot/mild shower 1hr before bed
Use your bed only... for sex and sleep
A lot of people have a hard time falling asleep on their backs (the chinese suggest that you sleep in a fetal position on your right side)
No internets or bight lights a few hours before sleep (better yet, when the sun sets)
If you cannot sleep, get out of the bed for 30 min and do some actual work, after that, try sleeping again.

I remember you advice me to mix 4 herbes to slepp on, the only one i remember the name of is valdrian but there was 3 other, to add to that i don`t remember how much of each herbe i should use, i do think you said to me that i should drink it 45 min befor i go to bed?
Well I think your talking of a formula I'd mentioned in the past which was a three herb combination. This consisted of Skullcap, Valerian & Passionflower. You may wish to get your system grounded to Earth. This means making sure you get 10-30 minutes a day barefoot on soil or grass. This can make dramatic differences for insomnia. Too much built up chi/prana/static/qi/orgone can seriously cause problems in the body and definately insomnia. I've supplied some more information below from Christopher: Craig
Insomnia
Definition:
Chronic inability to sleep or to stay asleep throughout the night. When you are wakeful and sleepless.
Herbal Aids:
Scullcap: 1 teacupful of warm scullcap infusion nightly upon retiring. [SNH p.371]
Insomnia (sleeplessness, especially morphine addict): See formula using scullcap, lady's slipper, hops, catnip and black cohosh. [SNH p.374]
Insomnia (sleeplessness, caused by nervousness): See formula using valerian, vervain, scullcap and wood betony. [SNH p.379]
Restlessness, Insomnia, Hysteria, Neuralgia, etc.: See formula using valerian, scullcap and mistletoe. [SNH p.380]
Insomnia (nervous sleeplessness): See formula using Lady's slipper, pleurisy root, skunk cabbage and scullcap. [SNH p.385]
Hops: Insomnia, nervous irritation. Take 2 to 3 cupfuls of hot hops infusion or stuff a pillow with hops (sprinkled with alcohol if desired) to sleep on. [SNH p.396]
Relax-Eze: Dr. Christopher Nerve Herbal Food Combination Here is a formula we have used with great success for well over thirty years. It is used for helping to relieve nervous tension and insomnia; it is mildly stimulating and yet lessens the irritability and excitement of the nervous system and also lessens or reduces pain. This formula contains herbs that feed and help revitalize the motor nerve at the base of the skull (medulla area and upper cervicals), and also herbs that help rebuild or feed the spinal cord. This group of herbs will also help rebuild the frayed nerve sheath,. the nerve itself, and its capillaries. The following herbs in this combination are food for your valuable--and in many cases, shattered-- nerves: black cohosh, capsicum, hops flowers, lady's slipper, lobelia, skullcap, valerian, wood betony and mistletoe. The suggested amount for an adult's use would be one to three cups of the tea, or two or three capsules or tablets three times in a day, taken with a cup of celery juice or steam-distilled water. [HHH p.187]
General Instructions: Some other techniques can help you get to sleep. Very effective is the combination of bath and massage, particularly with a soothing oil, such as camomile. Herbal oils are easily made; check "Preparations," [EWH p.188]. Camomile and linden tea both can help a person relax and sleep. For a really stubborn case, take a cup of valerian tea or a couple of capsules with warm water. A pleasant walk out of doors can help a person relax enough to sleep. Sometimes the person's blood sugar is a little low, and simply eating a piece of fresh fruit can put a person out. Warm tea with honey will do the same. [EWH p.151]
Not Hot Cocoa: Many of the people of Dutch extraction, that is, everyone from the Old Dutch Cleanser Girl to the Boy Who Put His Finger in the Dike, were prone to prepare themselves a nighttime cup of hot cocoa for the insomnia which prevailed in the land. Now...how can cocoa possibly cure insomnia when it contains 13.5 mg. of caffeine per cup? This practice was so extensive that it not only included family, but servants and visitors as well. This toxic dose of chocolate was topped with another toxin: cream or marshmallow. Anybody for a little chamomile? [NL 2-4]
Juices: Lettuce, celery, apple, onion. [NL 3-5]
Squash Seeds: Boiling squash seeds for a half an hour and then drinking the water has the effect of calming the nerves and helping in cases of insomnia and is good also for any urinary inflammation. [NL 4-12]
Vegetables for Insomnia: Cabbage, carrots, celery, collard greens, kale, lettuce, parsnips, potatoes, spinach, turnip greens, squash. [NL 4-12]
Testimonials:
1. Insomniac Cured after Years of Sleeplessness: Dr. Christopher told the story of a high school teacher who had a terrible case of insomnia. She could only sleep in twenty-minute stretches; thereafter, she would pace the floor throughout the night, keeping her family awake and becoming more and more tired herself. During the day she epitomized the "witch" school teacher. Eventually her screaming and irritability, her meanness and nagging, became so intolerable that her family wanted to have her committed to a mental institution. And she was so weary of it all that she would have liked to go herself.
The family called Dr. Christopher, however, who came over and prepared a cup of his nervine tea [Relax-Eze]. As it steeped, he chatted with the family, and then she drank the cup. Soon she yawned and said she might like to go lie down. Her husband commented that Dr. Christopher might just as well stay, because she would be up again in twenty-minutes, but Dr. Christopher took his leave.
The next morning, Dr. Christopher answered the telephone; a man's voice began berating him and calling him all sorts of vulgar names. "You ought to be jailed," the man shouted, "for giving my wife heavy drugs when you said they were herbs!"
Dr. Christopher explained he had only given the woman herbs, so mild that a newborn baby could safely use them. When the man calmed down, he explained that his wife had slept all night, and awakened calm and refreshed.
She continued taking this formula, and cleaned up her diet as well. Before long, she was as sweet and cooperative as she could be with her family and her classes, and everyone was grateful that she didn't have to be committed to a mental institution! [EWH p.151]
2. Nervous Debility and Insomnia: Lucas reports the case of a gentleman who was otherwise in good health but was continually suffering nervous debility and insomnia. Treatment by other doctors had not helped him at all. He was encouraged to try natural medicine and was given a combination of an ounce of Skullcap, an ounce of hops, and a half ounce of gentian root. He took this as an infusion and within a week he was sleeping well. At the end of two months he was fully recovered. Lucas mentions that Skullcap, catnip and peppermint work the same way for many people (Luc:Herbal:25). It is said to give natural sleep to morphine addicts, especially when combined with catnip, lime blossom and hops (Lev:Common:134). [UW-Scullcap]
3. Static Causes Insomnia: Dr. Christopher also said that our bodies collect excessive static vibration. Our bodies receive electricity through the top of the head where we used to have soft spots when we were babies. This electricity is essential to our bodies but it must be fresh and free flowing, coming through the top of the head, down the spine, through the body and is grounded out into the earth. When we do not let the electricity out and be grounded into the earth, it becomes static and toxic and builds up so much that new electricity can't come in. We can't sleep and we become hard to live with. Each day, therefore, we need to send some time out on the lawn or the ground to get rid of this static electricity in the body. There was an elderly man who was having a lot of trouble sleeping. His insomnia got so bad that he became very difficult to be around. His son knew this principle of walking on the earth to discharge unwanted energy and tried to convince his father to do so, but his father said that no one was going to get him to take off his shoes in public and walk on the lawn barefooted! However, one day, the son said, "Dad, I have something I must talk to you about". He sat the old man down, quickly took off his shoes and whisked him outside. They walked around the lawn a few times, talking and then the old man said that he was feeling tired. He went in the house and went to bed--and slept all night! We have noticed that native peoples who walk without shoes or who wear leather soles that let the energy through are much less nervous than those of us who wear synthetic or rubber soles. We spend a good deal of the summer without shoes and although it may not look as proper or civilized as wearing the plastic sandals that are the style now, we feel much less nervous and very harmonious during this time. [UW-Valerian]
Thank for the advice i have heard befor that it is very good for your health to go barefoot.
What is [EWH p.151] [NL 4-12] [SNH p.371] is it from some websites cot you please post the 3 links i would be very happy if you do?

I knew a woman who had insomnia. She was plagued by thoughts and memories that kept her awake at night, pacing the floors till 4-5 in the morning. Over time, we talked about our different experiences, and I talked to her about my faith in Jesus Christ. Eventually, she decided she wanted to repent of her sins, and turn to Christ. On the night she repented, she fell asleep like a baby at 7-8 o'clock, with her Bible still open on her chest. She'd been through some horrible experiences, and suffered awful anxiety. The doctors had her on all kinds of 'meds', but were never able to help her, or cure her. The night she turned to Jesus Christ, and repented, Christ set her free from it all and she was healed.
I've seen it happen to others, and I've lived it myself. Jesus Christ is always true to His Word, and He promises us that in Him, we will finally find true healing and true freedom.

I have had periods of insomnia, but usually caused by psychosis. I believe diet has much to do when it comes to avoiding both psychosis and insomnia. Also finding stress factors in your life and finding ways to avoid it might be a good thing to do. I know many having trouble sleeping where it is caused by lack of exercise. Well my self and a friend at least. I know of ways to avoid sleeping and ways to get back to sleeping. Sometimes one leads to the other even :)
I think the reasons I have slept well for a few years now, or at least 98% of the time, is that I have a job to keep me busy much of the time, a somewhat stable rythm of sleep. Mostly between 5-9 hours of sleep, and mostly I sleep in the hours where its dark outside. When I get out of these sleep cycles, then I sometimes get them back in order by skipping a night of sleep. Usually I do that because I find it very hard to just sleep more one night, but that is probably also a good way of regulating if possible.
Things that can really ruin your sleep rhythm is too much bright light just before going to sleep, too much sugar and not having done much most of the day. Bright light sources are likely to be a computer or TV screen. I sometimes read books on my laptop, which makes it harder for me to fall asleep. Avoiding cola and other caffeine and sugar products should help as well. Avoid sleeping pills. Probably not easy when having insomnia, but taking them for prolonged periods makes the body feel it needs them to sleep, and is unable to produce the things it does that causes the body to sleep.
I know prolonged periods with insomnia is bad for the psyche, but if you can make time for it, so it does not risk job and friendships maybe, then it might be needed to take some weeks just trying to get rid of the restlessness and maybe the need for sleeping pills. Read regular books maybe, although if they are too exciting they might not be helping much, but I still find it relaxing. David Icke's books might not be helpful for Insomnia since they are likely to just make you think all night long about problems and solutions and what to do, which is unlikely to cause sleep to come along naturally for a few hours at least.

Have you tried barefoot walking?
There's a thread on here about it. I suffer with insomnia and i've found walking on the grass for 10-30 minutes in my garden to help me alot.
I only started to do it afew days ago and i've been able to stay awake all day (Usually i need a nap) and when i get into bed i fall asleep quickly. I've had quite afew very clear dreams too.
You could try a barefoot connections bed sheet which plugs into a socket in your room and connects you to the earth for the whole night. After trying barefoot walking and having success, i'm gonna buy one.
