.
A PACK of feral cats are terrorising a neighbourhood in Pitsea.
Locals say it has been a big problem in the community and dozens of the animals congregate on rooftops and in gardens, surviving off rubbish bags.
John Randall, 52, of Crown Avenue, Pitsea, was left with deep scratches when five cats set upon him as he walked his dog along Chatham Pavement at about 11am on Friday.
He says they repeatedly clawed and bit his legs and jumped on his four-year-old Jack Russell.
John, who suffers with severe arthritis, said they continued to circle him after he attempted to fend them off with his walking stick.
He said: “I’ve seen them before, but I’ve never seen them behave like this. At first I heard a whining and spitting sound, then they all emerged from underneath a car. I did nothing to provoke them, and my dog was terrified, but they just kept jumping at us.”
The RSPCA has been called several times, most recently earlier this year to put down a mother and her litter following an outbreak of cat flu.
A 59-year-old resident of Chatham Pavement, who asked not to be named, said she will no longer let her grandchildren play outside.
She said: “I like cats, but the situation has got out of hand. They have damaged fences and sheds. It is ruining our quality of life.”
Her neighbour, a 57-year-old woman, said the community has become used to being kept awake by the sound of cats fighting.
She said: “We come out of our front doors and they just line the pavements. I guess we have just come to accept it.”
RSPCA official Klare Kennett said: “It is not unusual to get communities of feral cats, but it is unusual for them to attack someone. I can only imagine they had a litter nearby and felt threatened by the presence of the dog.
“I sounds like they may have been breeding out of control, so I will speak to local officers about the possibility of laying traps and getting them neutered.”

It's about time! I was wondering when they'd finally group up and fight back against their oppressors.

I for one welcome our new feline overlords
Could be the vibrations hitting the planet making people restless and edgy. Looks like it has gotten to the animals now....First was killer rabbits and now this....killer cats.

A cat I used to have could be a handfull, we knew the mother because it used to terrorise their neighbours alsatian dog. His father was probably a wild cat. I often had to stop him from having a go at my dog. He used to play rough but would get a bit mean too.
Be careful of your dogs nose if you have a cat.
Ever seen a magpie fight a cat and the cat run away, I have.

Well, they are just trying to survive. I think you would do the same thing if you were the feral cat. :)
