Very interesting events occured in Honduras today
Exhiled president Manuel Zelaya (received coup d' etat on June 28 2009) returned today as reported by local channel (Cholusat sur) 36 in Honduras while the other stations (mostly siding with the defacto government) denied that he had returned and considered them as media terrorists ( which may not be so far from the truth), minutes later it became confirmed that Manuel Zelaya was in the embassy of Brasil, with screenshots (very blurry) and witnesses.
Still not enough proof that he had returned, but moments later there was an interview today (live audio ) broadcasted through CNN espaņol.
And later in the extraordinarry assembly by the OAS (Organization of American States) a document was read , notifying the members that in fact Manuel Zelaya is back in Honduras, and the OAS read some guidelines that the defacto government should follow including:
- Protection of the Integrity of Manuel Zelaya
- Restitution of the Presidency of Honduras to Manuel Zelaya, and the stepping down of the defacto government.
The local media (which sides mostly with the defacto government) denied at first and soon took off the news , filled with commercials and put programming that was totally unrelated to such important events in Honduras.
Also, they kept placing State of the Union notifications and forcing channels to go to the State of the Union and stop their programming. But, there was only the notification noot the actual communication; so the channels were interrupted for false alarms at least twice so far today (currently 17:38 CT -06GMT)
Another ridiculous thing was the fact that the defacto government ordered a Curfue starting at 16:00 and they announced that approximately at 15:30 (lol).
So the traffic was purely jammed (my brother is still stuck in extreme traffic) because they decide to establish a curfue starting 30 minutes before the peak traffic rush hour. (lol)
- Another oodity: Channel 36's anchor was broadcasting the OAS assembly and translating himself when the representative of the US was speaking in english, The anchor was translating biased to favour his position as a supporter of Zelaya, when in reality the representative of the US communicated that the US is basically taking a neutral position whereas the other representatives are openly in favour of Zelaya's return. This anchor manipulates the masses ( the common folk and poor class that watch that news channel, because they favour Zelaya mostly because of his leftist stance) because they have no idea what the US representative is actually saying and believe what this anchor tells them to believe.
- This is important because since the US is the number 1 economic aid and importer of the Honduran economy, plus the money that Honduran workers send to their families back home in honduras is one of the key economic stabilizers , this knowledge is a big deal to the Hondurans.
