I have read studies that say that once cancer is INITIATED (e.g. by a carcinogen or a virus etc), that whether the cancer GROWS or not depends on your diet.
Inflammation has been linked in mainstream studies to higher rates of cancer recurrence, e.g. in breast cancer patients. So doctors are proposing to use anti inflammatory drugs to try to prevent this. But what CAUSES inflammation? wouldnt it be better to attack the CAUSE of the inflammation rather than use drugs as a bandaid solution?
Studies show that RED MEAT and DAIRY PRODUCTS actually do CAUSE inflammation in the body. Things that DONT cause inflammation, are vegetables and plant foods.
So basically, if you have cancer its probably a good idea to eat lots of vegetables, lots of fruit and berries (but more vegetables than fruit - and green ones in particular), then nuts and seeds - like pumpkin sunflower seeds, almonds, walnuts etc; and then whole grains - probably corn, beans, lentils, brown rice, chickpeas (hummus), etc.
If you are concerned about protein intake some fish (salmon or sardines etc) twice a week or an egg twice a week should be fine.
Foods to avoid if you have cancer: DAIRY; red meat; caged chickens - or any meat filled with hormones etc; (same with caged eggs); sugar, and alcohol, and caffeine.
Foods to eat a lot of : antioxidants (berries); GREEN vegetables - e.g. wheatgrass/barley grass; garlic; tumeric; GREEN TEA: leeks/onions; CABBAGE; BROCOLLI; KALE; BOK CHOY; soy; ..
Supplements; cats claw herb boosts the immune system
SEAWEED: (eat lots of it! e.g. SUSHI) wakame seaweed was shown in lab tests to be more effective at killing cancer cells than one of the chemo drugs i was given - 5 flouracil. wish someone told me beforehand..
Japanese and chinese species of mushrooms - some have cancer fighting properties.
Lots of vitamin C. but be careful of multi vitamins - some have sacchirin - artificial sugar in them - you can end up eating aspartame if you arent careful. And aspartame is NASTY. found in diet coke etc, equal, etc.
A good idea: to see a chinese doctor as chinese herbs - some may have cancer fighting properties, and also may help you recover from chemo when your body immune system has been knocked to pieces.
Books you might be interested in are: THe China Study by Dr Colin Campbell (a top american doctor and nutritionist). says basically, be wary of animal and dairy foods if you have cancer - meat/dairy. eat lots of fruit/vegies and wholegrains. he has the graphs to show the correlations in countries that eat a lot of dairy and cancer rates - versus asian countries that dont eat any, and cancer rates.
Also: Your life in your hands: by professor jane plant, cbe (she cured herself of final stage breast cancer at the last minute, with months to live. no dairy, according to her).
Probably a less scientific book/or with studies to back it up, is the "ph miracle", but nevertheless, i think the guy is on the right track, and what he says is backed up by other studies. I would read the china study first though. It has photos of tumours in rats shrinking to nothing when casein (the protein found in milk) was taken out of their diet and they were put on a more vegetarian diet - you'd have to read the book to see what he says to do. Probably worth a shot, if nothing else is working, id say?
there are many other treatments that could help:
eating apricot and apple SEEDS. vitamin b17 (no they arent dangerous they're used in cooking - an apple a day keeps the doctor away)
maybe even stuff like essiac tea, iodine (if your body levels are too low - there are tests for this. iodine given to rats shown to reduce fibrocystic breast tissue. most americans etc said to be iodine deficient.); ozone therapy; mistletoe - but be careful if you dont use it right, its dangerous.; and other stuff. but diet is criticial. if you're doing some of these but still eating meat and dairy you might still be stuffed.
