Does anyone on the forum know whether magnets work in a "vacuum" tube ?

I would assume so. Magnets don't require air or pressure to 'be' a magnet.

Space really isnt a vacuum though (nor is it a vacuum tube), But I get your point kidsarocker :)

I would think so. I'm no scientist but in my little brain I think magnetism would be unaffected.

i tried hoovering up a magnet, to put the experiment to the test, and the magnet got stuck to the vacuum's tube. So yes they still work in a vacuum.

Result. :D

Yes magnet will work in space steveo,

There are 5 forces in the universe. The strong nuclear and weak nuclear force, electromagnetism, gravity and the one they can't put a finger on, which is the superforces, that binds al these forces together.

So the electromagnetic force would allow magnet's to work in space, be it a vacuum or not.

I certainly hope the Hoover wouldn't collapse upon itself afterward. Then we would have to get one of those ridiculously expensive vacs to clean up the mess. And then what? The problem would just continue.

Maybe we could put the mess into the LHC and it would disappear like that tiny bit of anti-matter they supposedly created - or give it to the US Federal Reserve. They lost A LOT of money and don't know where it went.

OK, I just crossed over into left field out there. :p
