Channel 4 Education has collaborated with Derren Brown on a new viral internet show aimed at getting young people to question paranormal hoaxes.
Developed by Objective Productions and digital agency Illumina, Science Of Scams will debunk many of the myths surrounding major paranormal beliefs, such as psychics, telekinesis, chi forces and ghosts.
Over the web-exclusive series, Brown and co-host Kat Akingbade will present a series of hoax videos which purport to demonstrate spiritual phenomena, but then demonstrate how the stunts were actually created.
The campaign is designed to encourage young people (primarily aged between 14 and 19) to more vehemently challenge these beliefs and also engage with scientific disciplines.
Channel 4 commissioning editor for education Alice Taylor said: "Videos suggesting that paranormal events are real are some of the biggest hits on YouTube, and seem to be very popular with UK teens.
"We wanted to create a fun, engaging project that challenges people to question their readiness to believe, by unveiling the straightforward scientific phenomena behind these so-called 'paranormal' events. Derren and Kat make for a smooth scambusting duo."
This marks the first time that Channel 4 Education has worked with a celebrity on a viral project, partially due to the inherent cost involved with using a famous face.
However, Taylor said at a briefing held today to unveil the autumn gaming lineup that Brown really bought into the project as the paranormal is "his thing".
Science Of Scams will launch next month exclusively on the internet (including hoax videos on YouTube), although Channel 4 retains the right to also carry it on TV and 4OD.
