Hello yamyam90,
The bright low star I see in the sky at around 9-ish when looking south, is Jupiter. (View from Eve Hill, Dudley)

I think I know what you mean, its significantly brigher than anything else in the sky and doesnt look distant at all, not the same kind of subdued blueish light that a star would emit but more white/yellow like an artificial source. I wish I had a telescope to investigate.

It probably is a planet, will find out more soon. I know a good site for tracking satellites for their flair ups and stuff but not so sure about this.
