hmm well, maybe parents should be teaching their children about the dangers of the world instead of getting all bothered about a piece of plastic, which is inanimate.
belief is a funny old thing, but it could be totally bollocks. who invented the colour codes exactly and where do they know them from? the past? oh right.. well its just as simple as that..
things happened in the past that probably didnt actually happen at all and because enough people believed in it then it made it seemingly more important, whole books were written on stuff that might not have happened and you know what they are.
I call shit parenting and BS on that one. I'm also getting a bit fed up with the 'fussy' mentality that is making the rounds. Just blatant fucking laziness if you think about it.

They should call them 'pedo bands'. And say the manufacturers are probably pedos, that'll stop 'em.

Yes they are not a new craze,
I also had them when i was at school 10 - 12 years ago or so....we knew them as shag bands (in the south of uk)
I never heard of anyone actually shagging due to someone breaking them.......I think kids know what they are meant to be, but don't take it seriously....

We had them as kids too and I remember the hiding I got when I came home with them on beceause of what they represented, but I didn't know and wore them because they were the trend.
My kids haven't come home with them yet, but it may be time for a chat.
My boys wont wear anything from GAP because apparently it stands for Gay And Proud :p

Speaking of beads, the Zulu women use to make and sell beaded love letters which we use to wear too. They apparently gave them to their brave worriers when they went off to fight the Boers and the English :)

The 90's are calling, they want their fad back. Seriously, shag bands were all the rage in 95. If someone of the opposite sex snapped your band, they had to shag you. No one did though. It's just playground talk.
Sorry but I don't care. No child should be wearing these things! Especially when they don't even know what they mean.

Totally agree with the OP, and with hawk.
the OP said 6 year olds shouldn't be wearing these pedo attracting bands, and it is true.
maybe if teens know it is a joke, fair enough, but not little kids. that is really awful.
It was really good that the OP was alerted by another kids mum, otherwise they didn't know.
how would a lil kid know what they may be inviting to themselves, eek ! at that age, they wouldn't have a clue.

Those were popular in America for a while. I used to where them back in high school, and even middle school. I had no idea what they meant. I just thought they were cool bracelets. That's disturbing. But I am sure there is a lot of stuff we do, and wear everyday, that means something we don't even know.

Had them when I was younger. If one snapped you have to shag the person who gave you it. But I've never met anyone who actually did it.
It was just one of those things. "Nah nah nah you have to shag him eww" - unless it got more sinister.
I wonder where it actually came from though.

I try to avoid buying all cheap plastic crap :)
I have never heard of these things and it is probably old news. I did a google search and they seem to be a popular thing. Apparently each colour band represents a different sexual position or act. All a bit of harmless fun amongst consenting adults I suppose. But for primary school kids to be wearing them and understanding the meaning of each colour is fucked up in my opinion. Just another way to force sexual awareness on to prepubescent youngsters. Oh what a brave new world.

So if your child was innocently wearing what he/she thought was just some colourful bracelets you'd have a problem?

Pedo attracting bands? Do you think a nonse is going to climb into a reception classes playground, snap the band and then say to the kid "well you know the rules"
Here's an idea, if you don't want your children picking bad knowledge up, home school them, never let them out, lock them in a bright white room and get them castrated. It's the only option
Fact of the matter is, you as an adult didnt even know what they were. A lot of the shocked people in this thread are actually like this shit is out of the blue. I remember them from 1995 and havent heard of one snapped band leading to child molestation yet. Use your logic.

I've never remembered them being marketed to kids as "Shag Bands". I remember girls would go down to accessorize or somewhere like that and buy loads of colours as friendship bands. Then one of the other students told us about shag bands. Here's the thing though, do you know how hard it is as a 10 year old to "accidently" snap someones band. As for the colours - I dont think we knew enough about sex to colour code the acts.
Instead of all going mad at the world when something like this happens, we should just educate our children about the world they're living in, prepare them for it.

It's just bright plastic bracelets people. Sure, some have started this thing with the rules about shagging but they aren't marketed for it, fucking ridiculous if anyone actually believes that shit. And all the comments about how this forces sex to kids and paedophilia... LOL.

The brown bracelet apparently denotes "toss my salad" What the hell does that mean when it's at home? Why do these crappy bracelets have any meaning? I see loads of kids and teens about town with these pieces of jewellery. Had this kinda thing myself as a kid, but they never ever had any association or meaning linked to them, they were just pretty bracelets.

Sexual dangers in child 'shag bands'

THEY look like a symbol of childhood innocence. But these bracelets are part of an "insidious" game that sees primary school kids perform sex acts.
And it is feared the craze may soon sweep WA
Rather than a mere fashion statement, the so-called "shag bands" are linked to grades of sexual behaviour. A Facebook page about the innocuous-looking bands has already been inundated with more than 12,000 fans.
The game involves a boy or girl trying to break the rubber band off the wearer's wrist. If it snaps, the wearer has to perform the sexual favour that corresponds to the colour.
Snap an orange band and get a kiss, snap a yellow and get a hug. But snap a black, light blue or light green band, and the "prize" is something far more sinister.
A gold-coloured bracelet opens the way to all the favours.
Parent and family groups are horrified by what is represented by the bracelets, which can be bought at Diva chain stores.
When primary school-aged girls on Facebook's shag band fan page were asked "what colour would you snap", replies included: "yellow, because I like hugz", and "light pink because only a kiss".
But the innocent comments were interspersed with other answers, such as, "black coz u get to shag someone". UrbanDictionary.com defines the rubber wrist bands as "jelly bracelets" and lists the entire repertoire of sexual favours.
Social commentator Melinda Tankard-Reist, who has has just edited Getting Real: Challenging the Sexualisation of Girls, said the so-called shag bands set young girls up for "sexual consumption".
"It's just setting up girls as service stations for boys," she said. "This is another example of young women expected to be publicly sexual, to advertise their sexual repertoire.
"It's insidious . . . it's damaging to girls and their worth."
Australian Childhood Foundation chief executive Joe Tucci said that early sexualisation was worrying.
"All this is selling the idea of sexualisation is a way to negotiate relationships," Dr Tucci said. "What's happened to just playing?"
Dr Tucci said if parents saw their children wearing the bands it was an opportunity to talk about tricky subjects such as sexuality.
"There's no point banning them, then you just make them more attractive," he said.

i can remember when i was a kid me and my freinds, and mostly everyone our age (also some adults) knew about these bands.
altho back then it was those black rings you find around pip fittings (they would create a seal on the thread)
and these where worn as a "cool thing" and there was a "sex game" that went along with them.
depending on the amount the person broke on a another person is how far they are going to go. ie 1. kiss 2. feel. and so on....
now when i see these are back in "fashion" and are now colour coded for even more "games"

I didn't have a knee jerk reaction.
I just wondered what all the fuss was about.
I can see why parents would get anoyed. They think it's the same thing as wearing a T shirt saying " I <3 anal" or something like that.
It doesn't really stand out as a psychological tactic from paedophiles though.
I might be wrong. Mind control comes in a battery of techniques rather than one or two, like the death of a thousand cuts.
There are probably some sick bastards somewhere who think they can can use the craze to their advantage.

I'll correct what I just wrote,
Some areas of mind control involve a battery of insideous methods. Other areas involve drugs, torture and rape, etc.
I could see gang stalkers muttering things like "But you wore a shag band," or shouting it outside a target's house to build up the sense of "No one will believe you, you asked for it, etc." It's one of the things that stalkers do.
Personaly I wouldn't put too much blame on the way kids talk to each other, I'd blame it on the existence of pedos and gang stalkers, because they'll twist anything to their agenda, and they'll try to make their distortions prevalent.
