Robert "Bob" Nesta Marley OM (February 6, 1945 – May 11, 1981) was a Jamaican singer, songwriter, guitarist, and activist. He is the most widely known performer of reggae music. A faithful Rastafari, Marley is regarded by many as a prophet of the religion.

Marley was born in the small village of Nine Mile in Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica. His father, Norval Sinclair Marley (born in 1895), was a Jamaican of English descent, with parents from Sussex. Norval was a Marine officer and captain, as well as a plantation overseer, when he married Cedella Booker, a black Jamaican then eighteen years old. Norval provided financial support for his wife and child, but seldom saw them, as he was often away on trips. Marley was ten years old when his father died of a heart attack in 1955 at age 60.

Used to have an old style arabian one from my travels, worked a treat but lost it due to moving about.....you inspired me to get another. Which is great. But I'm meant to be revising for exams. Which means I'll be revising marley and cheech & chong instead of psych...bugger....lol:D

study first always. you can get stoned anytime, you can't study all the time. i use to use it as a treat/incentive. study in the day/evening, if i studied good, then after dinner, treat yourself to a smoke. see how quickly you dive into your study. its the carrot argument. sis, make sure you study, once you get your papers/qualifications, no one can take them from you, no one can say anything. empower yourself.

see people can say all they want about me, but at the end of the day, i am educated, financially comfortable, and hence people hate, mock, but are just plebs. i could bitch slap them with my uni certificates or cash, lol but i don't.

You're the first person in a hell of a long time who has talked complete sense to me with regards to 'moderation with all things'. I confess I sometimes get lax and smoke when I should be doing the 'programming', it's tough, forcing a shit load of info into my psyche, info I disagree with half the time.

However, I am aware of what your saying with regards to the 'passport' a degree ensures, and that is the aim....Moderation and balance....will leave buying the bong till after the exams;)

its like dinner, you eat you dessert after the main course, same with the weed. you also get a better buzz, after doing the study/work you have to. if you smoke whilst worried, anxious etc, its only magnifies/acclerates the fears/worries you have. if you smoke when everything is ticked off/done etc, you can enjoy it. good luck with ya studies, fellow geek.

even rastas are aginst the any excessive usage. they actually look down on the everyday use, and skunk etc. they prefer to use it as a herb, when they want to study, reasoning sessions etc, medicine. its good for pain, arthritis, stimulating appetite, asthma etc. if it was bad, then why are pharma companies using weed to make medicines?

moderation is the key. there are people who eat too much processed foods, that affect fetility etc later on, there are people who drink too much, people who don't eat enough, etc.

Many people who smoke the herb only do it to get stoned or high.
There's a difference in getting stoned and opening yourself up more to the truth of your being.

If you use it for the latter, it might not be that big of a deal even though it's completely unecessary and possibly still damaging for your "spiritual progress".
I suspect the more simpler and the more clear you keep your consciousness, the purer and stronger the light can shine through.

I think Bob knew fine well that you don't NEED herb to reveal you to yourself but you have to take into account the times and the world in which we live.

For many people who are rushing around and facing the pressures of modern life, they simply don't have time to progress spiritually. As the man said himself, it's different if you live isolated away from everything but when you're in the city and you're worried and it's noisy, herb can then be used to sort of open a window into the spiritual dimension. That's if you use it correctly.

So I think he was being shrewd, focussing on the period of time he was in, when he encouraged the use of it. First, get as many people to use weed as possible because that will start to open doors and get people past the first hurdle of seeing life the conditioned way. Then we can take it from there...

To me, it's just like meditation, books, or anything that encourages spiritual growth - it all serves it's purpose but you have to leave it behind at some point.
