How Many Dead Non-White Civilians Does It Take for the U.S. to Notice? Putting the Kunduz Massacre in Context

http://uruknet.com/pic.php?f=afghan_kids_dead.jpg

In the past few years, U.S. officialdom and the mainstream press barely take note of dead Afghans unless the number exceeds thirty.

September 10, 2009 - RAWA

The magic cut-off is revealed to be about 30-40. Such revealed facts tell far more than mere words. Some years ago, Human Rights Watch’s Marc Garlasco when in the employ of the Defense Intelligence Agency as an air strike targeting decision-maker would have to seek higher level clearance for U.S. air strikes if the estimated Afghan civilian deaths ("collateral damage") exceeded thirty. It says here that villagers rushed to the takers to try and get free fuel. If this is so then what happened is basically a tragic accident.

It is not good but when you have armed people hijacking fuel trucks and taking them into civilian areas then you have a problem. Do you think NATO are going to just let them keep the fuel, perhaps to use in attacks themselves?

You cant really blame the pilots for that because if somebody has told them that all the people around the tankers are enemy then they are in no position to know any different, especially when civilians often carry weapons in places like that.

Afghans often involve their own children in the fighting but people never seem to mention that. One was sent with a wheel barrow of explosive to blow up a marine in one case.
