I saw an article on the this subject in the daily mail a few weeks ago that if you gave up coffee, alcohol sugar, salt wheat and dairy you had orthorexia a mental illness, how convenient!!! for TPTB to label anyone concerned with healthy eating as mentally ill.

In the same sentence they then said one sufferer ate only yellow foods, as if this were the same as giving up coffee alcohol and sugar, this is how they subtly mind manipulate, that giving up unhealthy food is the same as someone with an obsession with yellow food. I would agree that someone who eats only yellow food may have an obsession with food, but not if you give up unhealthy foods like alcohol and aspartame for example.

What a huge joke... nothing has ever got my warning bells ringing like when I first heard about "Orthorexia Nervosa"... and that is really saying something!
You can convince the public of a new disease simply by giving some phenomenon a fancy Latin name - but it's very transparent what they're up to here. After all, what better way to make the masses controllable than by encouraging them to keep eating food that will make them sick?

Bullshit.

There is no such thing as 'healthy' and 'unhealthy' food.

Only food and junk.

If it hasnt grown on a tree, plant or bush.. its probably junk.

Well the body can process dirt off the floor if you were ever in that situation, it will take the nutrients out and expel the rest as waste. Our bodies are quite resilient and adaptive like that. Of course you couldn't do it indefinitely.

Anything that can lead to a fixation that leads someone to damage their health can and should be classed as a disorder.

No-one is saying you have a disorder if you prefer a mungbean to a mcchicken sandwich - just that if you take healthy eating to such an extent that you become malnourished or it takes over your life leading to an inability to function in what is considered 'the norm' then there is a problem.

how is this possible?

how is this possible?

Well for an example off the top of my head - if you cut out entire food groups and dont make substitutions to make up for nutrient deficiencies.

WTF? So no one diagnosed obese people eating chips and burgers all day long with a "disorder" leading to poor health but the poor chap who cuts out coffee, sugar, and alcohol is diseased? Right...

Less profits for Big Pharma I suppose.... Everyone go back to your fat and sugar coma...that's right where they want you!

Anyway, I am sick of these articles including things like people who cut out dairy and wheat (usually gluten). I have Celiac Disease and MUST cut out gluten to live. It's not like I want to eat bland rice cakes all day for fun. I also am unlucky enough to have anaphylaxis to dairy (as diagnosed by an allergist MD after I went into shock in his office during allergy testing and required an Epi pen and trip to the local ER). I have a crap immune system, but that's another thread....

So now I not only have to deal with this crap but I have to worry about every ding dong reading this article and thinking I've got an eating disorder?! Dairy and wheat are part of the top 9 allergens, 1% of the population has Celiac Disease (cannot have wheat gluten-different from a wheat allergy), and most of the non-white population has lactose intolerance, in which they get stomach issues due to lacking the enzymes required to break down milk sugar (please note that lactose intolerance is NOT the same as a dairy/milk allergy). In other words, many people cut out these foods because they HAVE to, FOR health, not because they have an eating disorder. And nobody HAS to consume dairy, gluten, caffeine, alcohol, or sugar to be healthy. So regardless, let these people eat what they want.

I do agree 100% that people who end up spending so much time trying to plan "healthy" meals that they only eat 15 grapes and some salad for dinner have a problem. Or those who only eat "purple" foods. But other than that, let's focus on the REAL fact that eating less crap is a GOOD thing. What a smokescreen to hide the truth. With 75% of the US population and 50 something% of Canada's population overweight for example, I highly doubt this disorder is the real problem right now...

Thanks for posting, totally agree with your take on the matter. It's the old distraction/bait and switch. Detract from the real issues at hand, and then use some abstract issue to legitimize your case.

Reminds me of this natural news article:
http://www.naturalnews.com/028280_psychiatric_industry_disease_mongering.html

"All of a sudden, the new psychiatric diagnostic manual (DSM-V) appears to have adopted as medical fact many of the disorders that were created by the Disease Mongering Engine!

This new manual, for example, now says that spending a lot of time thinking about sex is a disorder. (That immediately paints every teenage boy as "diseased.")

Another new disease is "Oppositional Defiant Disorder" (ODD), which includes anyone who disagrees with authority. All those who are skeptical about the safety of vaccines, for example, are about to be diagnosed with ODD."

.......It's getting more insane by the minute.

Bahahahaha! Soon, they're be a diagnosis (and a prescription!) for thinking too much about the "conditions" Big Pharma is creating.

Solid gold link, thanks.

Note the irony...those who actually take care of their health via diet are "diseased" and now must be drugged anyway by Big Pharma.

I know what you mean. But then it becomes a problem when someone goes from one unhealthy/imbalanced extreme to another.

What is glaringly absent from the author of this 'eating disorder theory is the information that shows you can have a HEALTHY and BALANCED diet. I'm sure it's not accidental, unless it's just another case of 'left brain' mainstream medicine, separating the whole, isolating health from diet.

The guy who put forward that theory really doesn't deserve to be called a 'doctor' and should be struck off.

Sounds like a typical day at the whole foods in boulder.
