The Watchers were the rank of angels called the Grigori. These were Angels who were set over earth to watch it but fell by coming to earth and mating with women and teaching humans the arts and sciences. For this God punished them and all were imprisoned in darkness where they are held until the day of judgement when they will be put into the lake of fire.
But not all the watchers sinned against God but because they had great loyalty to their own kind, they did not prevent them and would not turn against their own brothers because of their great loyalty for their own kind. And so these neutral watchers were punished to remain on earth until the day of judgment. They are not permitted to interfere but some have and revealed the secrets to men at times. One of these was the revealing of the invention of atomic energy and the creation of the nuclear bomb. Another was by inspiring a chemist to synthesize LSD-25, which is a nuclear bomb of the mind and soul. They are not demons though. The demons are the Nephillim which were the children of the Annunaki. All of the Annunaki are the gods of the ancient world, although in different cultures they have different names. Heracles was Gilgamesh. Thor was Marduk and Zeus. They are spiritual beings but can take residence in human bodies. They exist both in extra-dimensional space and also in the supernatural realms outside our material universe.
