The EU light bulb fascists are at it again. Here is the next lot of traditional bulbs to be banned. This will also force everyone who uses these bulbs to make expensive fittings changes, as well as using shitty bulbs.

i tend to live at night and my eyes appear to have adapted to the dark quite well....anyone coming to my place in the evening the first thing they say is they cant see shit...I use a series of red, green and blue 5 watt bulbs on leads that I plug in at various sockets around the house. Makes for a nice effect and the way I look at it is if I lived 100 years ago you wouldnt have had any lights at all so a bunch of dim bulbs isnt so bad. Where I am you can still buy big 100 watt bulbs no problem...shit quality though.
I suppose anyone not wanting to use the new energy saving bulbs could rig up dozens of torch bulbs around the house, attached to a car battery or whatever. Fuck it why not?? They wont be very bright but you can still make stuff out, and after time you will get used to them. they can make a house appear mysterious and rustic/cosy.

I'm sure their main motivation behind this is because they know these low energy bulbs cause depression. I bet also certain people in the EU behind this will have nice connections with the makers of these mercury lamps.

Thank God; finally someone is doing something about those damn spotlights.
Phew ... I can breathe a sigh of relief now.
You don't know how many sleepless nights I've had over them!
Thankfully, I can get back to more pleasant thoughts, like the imminent total and irreversible collapse of the global financial system, the utter frustration at the political pantomime, the evil that is Big Pharma and those other pesky little side issues.
But hey ... kitchen spotlights ... thats now got a big "done" tick on my to-do list and a smile on my face, to boot. :)

what i'd like to know is, since we're not fully in the EU, how are their shitty laws applied to us? EU legislation is used to determine your right to reside in this country as an immigrant. i assume we won't be getting a referendum on the lisbon treaty then.

:D
I am going to start a campaign here in the States to make sure these sound and sensible policies are adopted here. A Kitchen Spotlight is not something we should tolerate- Nobody should.
I also know there will be criminals disobeying the law- Selling Black Market Spotlights from shady alleys and generally bringing forth a crime wave (a similar event happened when the U.S. adopted our wonderful Toilet legislation to conserve water. Lo flow toilets are great and only need 3 flushes-But those criminals were smuggling Toilets from Canada to for resale- true story) and they should be dealt with harshly- Perhaps permanently blinded so they wont need light for the rest of their lives and save electricity.

I posted something similar once, dont know that you need to mess with a 12V or 24V battery though, its not too hard to get a AC to DC transformer that plugs into the power socket and gives off around 21-24V, Notebook/laptop power supplies are one example.
Then you can use multiple 24V truck bulbs...until they ban them maybe and go L.E.D. on vehicles, but as it is now, plenty of 24V filament bulbs available.
SO maybe someone could make a compact transformer with a conventional light socket on one end (just like a 240V bulb), so it fits onto current light fittings, and has a socket for one or more 24V bulb on the other end. Its a plausible idea, dont know if anyone would want to do it though, probably too tin foil hat for most.
They already sell DC low voltage lights here in Australia at hardware stores etc. (and probably everywhere else too) but the idea is that it is for outdoor situations where high volt AC is risky because of rain and moisture. Usually used to illuminate driveways in rural areas where there are no street lights, or outdoor entertainment areas.
My kitchen has flourescent lights with starters, the long tubular ones. :D so i couldnt really care unless i break one, which i havent. They were there before me and they look ok so they are staying ATM.
But if someone wants some 'warm' light that mimmicks the sun, just get a High pressure sodium light and hang that off your ceiling, im sure the HPS lamps arent banned anywhere in the world, (except maybe Adelaide).

Well you need to turn them off at night then.
But seriously, your posts are always both funny and very informative. A difficult combination to achieve.
what are they going to ban next toilet paper?
I bet that ban is on the horizon too, paper and bleach ruins the environment etc. We will know when its time to stock up, its when David Rothschild builds a raft out of toilet rolls bonded together and sails across one of the oceans to raise awareness. I dont want to think about what he would name that boat as.
Hopefully we will still have bidets.
ill just save my newspaper thats all its good for anyway!!:p
For sure, along with helping to start log fires. I used to like watching the politicians faces on the front page burn, thats when i used to buy newspapers. Now Ruperts monopoly is all on the internet here, if i choose to have a look.

If you look up the 'history' of this ridiculous legislation, you will find the main protaganist in lobbying the eu was none other than, OSRAM, yes that's right the BULB manufacturer.
When & if the lisbon treason is fully ratified, there are over 100,000 new 'laws' & regulations 'they' have 'on the shelf' all ready to wield, in the unending bureaucratic hegemony on the peoples of Europe.

Well, I can still get oil lamps. Vegetable oil hasn't been banned yet (soy farmers would have a hissy fit). Minimal amount of smoke with veg oil. I can make my own wicks. Guess I can get by.
If their reasoning on spotlights is that they are direct lighting and are wasting CO2 because of their single purpose then what's to keep them from banning headlights on vehicles? Those are most definitely direct lighting for a single purpose. But then no one ever said the governments on this Earth had to make sense.
What I still don't understand is since CO2 is so necessary for growing things, when did it become so "bad" for the environment? Who died and made the EPA God? :mad:The laws of nature CAN NOT be manipulated, at will, for greed or aquisition of power, without some dreadful consequences.:(
People (sheeple) had better wise up and see the fraud for what it is; you, being manipulated to build your own prison. I find balsa wood works the best for me. Makes them think I'm obeying dutifully and allows me the luxury of blasting through with my fists when I've had enough.

Mrs Dogsmilk's gran is partially blind and needs 100w bulbs because she can't see shit without them. If I hadn't purchased a bunch for her to be going on with, apart from this 'industrial lightbulbs' loophole that's going, she could wave the ability to see at night goodbye.

The EU are so thoughtful in their legislation...
After everyone has saved big piles of kilowatt hours after fitting the world saving light bulbs, the one question we all demand to be answered is what do we do with all this saved energy?
The EU has it covered... why not throw away our perfectly working, 100 Watt CRT TV's (seeing as we have more landfill space than we know what to do with) and replace them with 200 Watt LCD/Plasma TV's.
And if you feel that your CRT is adequate for the job, don't fret... the state can dip into the bottomless pocket of tax money and bribe you with £150 of your own cash to get down to Curry's.
Fingers crossed that the Irish vote 'YES' to Lisbon.

Spotlights and kitchen downlighters are to be banned by Brussels following its scrapping of traditional lightbulbs.
Switching off: Spotlights have been deemed inefficient by the European Commission
Switching off: Spotlights have been deemed inefficient by the European Commission
The European Commission is expected to outlaw inefficient ' directional bulbs' - such as those commonly used in desk lamps or embedded in ceilings.
However, low-energy replacements can be up to 20 times more expensive and could also require costly new fittings.
It comes a week after the ban on traditional 'non- directional' incandescent bulbs began.
It is now illegal to import bulbs of 100 watts or more. Over the next three years the ban will be extended to 60, 40 and 25 watt bulbs.
