Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency (CECD):
Can this Concept Explain Therapeutic Benefits of Cannabis in Migraine, Fibromyalgia,
Irritable Bowel Syndrome and other Treatment-Resistant Conditions?

http://www.freedomtoexhale.com/clinical.pdf

Abstract
OBJECTIVES: This study examines the concept of clinical endocannabinoid deficiency
(CECD), and the prospect that it could underlie the pathophysiology of
migraine, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, and other functional conditions
alleviated by clinical cannabis.
METHODS: Available literature was reviewed, and literature searches pursued
via the National Library of Medicine database and other resources.
RESULTS: Migraine has numerous relationships to endocannabinoid function.
Anandamide (AEA) potentiates 5-HT1A and inhibits 5-HT2A receptors
supporting therapeutic efficacy in acute and preventive migraine treatment.
Cannabinoids also demonstrate dopamine-blocking and anti-inflammatory
effects. AEA is tonically active in the periaqueductal gray matter, a migraine
generator. THC modulates glutamatergic neurotransmission via NMDA receptors.
Fibromyalgia is now conceived as a central sensitization state with secondary
hyperalgesia. Cannabinoids have similarly demonstrated the ability to
block spinal, peripheral and gastrointestinal mechanisms that promote pain in
headache, fibromyalgia, IBS and related disorders. The past and potential clinical
utility of cannabis-based medicines in their treatment is discussed, as are
further suggestions for experimental investigation of CECD via CSF examination
and neuro-imaging.
CONCLUSION: Migraine, fibromyalgia, IBS and related conditions display
common clinical, biochemical and pathophysiological patterns that suggest an
underlying clinical endocannabinoid deficiency that may be suitably treated
with cannabinoid medicines.

Hi, nice post.
Was thinking about something on the same subject the other day.
I take cannabis to ease a sort of tension I get which works its way around and ends up expressing itself in my guts, similar or the same as Irritable Bowel Syndrome. This problem is in my head though, as ive found changing the way i think helps with the symptoms, but cannabis definately aids in disseminating the stress/ thought patterns which cause the symptoms. Ive had it since i was born, my bowels didnt work properly as a toddler.

Anyway, back to my point about cannabinoids. I reckon the more varieties you ingest, the broader the range of different cannabinoids get 'downloaded' into your system. L:ike, if you stick to one variety your whole life, you will never take advantage of the full range of cannabinoids that are present in all cannabis plants in the world. I believe trying different strains activates a broader number of receptors, therefore making your system more efficient at processing and using CB's to your bodys advantage.

A lot of the beneficial cannabinoids have been bred out of the dutch types. I find most of the commercial varieties are similar and maybe a bit bland.
Would like to try some pure landraces, or even go on a treck to try and find some ancient lost genetics. That would make my day/month/year/life

Hi nowimgone :)

The power of the mind must never be underestimated, just a pity you have had a life time of suffering as a teacher. :o

'Variety is the spice of life'

I know what you mean about the overly inbred Dutch strains, a powerful hit that just leaves an empty feeling of missing something. Some breeders are trying to expand the genetics with some nice results, one of my personal fav strains is Jack the Ripper from Subcool seeds though the Deathgrip i'm currently smoking is extremely nice i must say. http://www.davidicke.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=549&pictureid=5130

I do agree with you totally about the landraces, getting hold of them at a reasonable price is the hardest part. The only 1 we've got so far Pure Afghan from DNA seedbank.

Hey mate,
Ive tried Jack the Ripper, its really lemony with a long drawn out body effect which lasts well into the next day. Its only around my way very rarely tho! You're afghan sounds nice, hoping i'll get an early fat indica with my sensi outdoor mix one season, the ones ive pulled out over the past couple of years have been unruly sativa crosses that really stink, not good when your doing it gorllia style in a built up area!! People seem to be quite good at not caring where i am tho. Tried some autoflowering strains this year too. Not that potent but still quite nice. They were Auto AK47, AutoDiesel and EasyRyder. One of the auto AK's hermed which i wasnt too pleased about, and i only got one really resinous pheno from 5 fem spuds. The auto diesel were indeterminate freebies thrown in by the seedsman, the 8 that survived from early april turned out to be all male, Doh! Shouldve collected pollen but didnt want to risk sinsemilla production so pulled them all.
The Easyryder were started at the begining of august and are going strong. Five weeks to go,Very nice smell. Im in the middle of writing a grow report for Soft Secrets about my experiences with the autoflowering varieties, so hopefully they might publish it!
Yeah i must say that i cant be dealing with the bland stuff anymore, like you said it just makes you feel empty. Tastes of nothing. Does nothing.

Talking of things weed like, thinking about heading to the UK Hemp Expo in Nov at brick lane london. Never been, sounds like my kind of thing, I also wanna get some Long John Silver from Pukka Seeds. Apparantly you can plant it outdoors, it flowers and sets its own seeds, perpetually crossing itself for all time. I'll never have to buy seeds again!! Why dont we get some like minded from here together and head down to the smoke, for a smoke!!! Peace
