Five children being kept as sex slaves by paedophiles who broadcast daily abuse of their victims over the internet have been rescued by police from homes in Scotland and England and placed in care.

The boys and girls, aged from seven to 13, were freed in a series of raids last month as part of an investigation by a specialist Scottish unit set up to oversee inquiries into serious sexual crimes.

The operation was launched when evidence of the internet abuse was obtained following the arrest of a man in central Scotland for alleged sex offences. Three of the children were found at undisclosed locations in Scotland and two more were later discovered in England as a result of the initial raids.

The investigation was supported by Scotland's National Sex Crimes Unit, a team of senior prosecutors who under the Scottish legal system are able to direct and offer advice on ongoing police operations.

Derek Ogg QC, the barrister who heads the unit, said: "This was one of our most harrowing and disturbing cases but it clearly demonstrated the value of, and real need for, the unit. It was a fantastic result for good, old-fashioned police and detective work."

Police declined to reveal further details of the investigation but said legal proceedings were now active against several individuals.

How did paedophiles manage to keep five children?
Were they missing children?
Were they "placed" children?

"Placed in care" is taking on a whole different meaning recently ...

This is the type of police work that should be going on. I'd rather them focus on something important like 5 abused children, than someone smoking a little weed here and there.

At the same time, I understand where yozhik is coming from. Were these children indeed kidnapped or 'placed' there? Like the drug trade, raids are made occasionally to make it look something is being done. In truth they know most of the key players and only ever go after the peons, leaving the monsters in power.

If it was legitamate police work, congratulations to them. I hope the kids are placed in homes where they won't be abused. Hopefully they can overcome that trauma and not turn sour in the process of life.

Same here, the ones at right at the top are usually impossible to get to, for many reasons, mostly money and other such groups they may be part of which, you don't need much proding to think of some. The bigger the catch, the harder to come by, but still this is a good job on the hands of the police.

They could very easily have been the perps own children. The details are lacking.
