Remote from the power networks, people brought up as Jews, like any 'ordinary' people, are a product of their genes and conditioning. I don't think you were ever party to this information. There are now translations available online of the Bablylonian Talmud.
From your perspective as a non-elite Jew you are encouraged to 'do well' for yourself, and doors open into the professions where high salaries are paid. This appears to be a reward for your effort and ability. To some extent and in some cases it will be. I know you cannot buy a ticket to redemption by studying any form of self-improvement/spiritual awareness program. This is of course concerned with saving yourself, not humanity.
