I'm not trying to decry anyone else, I spoke to some really nice English people on the way home, but I've just come back from a lovely holiday in Wales and have to acknowledge how friendly, patient and helpful I found the people there, from the man selling ice cream in Corwyn Bay to the local butcher, who I'd never met before, who gave me 8 slices of bacon when I only asked for two, and charged the same. At no time did it ever seem they were trying to make an effort when they spoke to you, they gave off a really positive energy, and I found it encouraging.

I don't know how many people where I live would smile and say "It's a one way street, luvvie." They'd be swearing and cursing and calling me every name under the sun probably, or at best, frown and shrug as I try to renegotiate my way back down the one way street. :D

My history and geography teacher was a raving square headded black curly haired sheepshagging madman. He made my life hell for six years. Two years after leaving school I went to live in Normandy and rapidly became an expert on the Norman invasion 1066. If he hadn't fucked my life at school and had given me a genuine interest in history my entire life would have been different.

Bomb Wales off the map as far as I'm concerned.

hmm largejack you weren't in cardiff then, where as henryv sounds like he was. there are the odd few nice people in cardiff.....but not many...i might point out, i am nice :D

on the whole the welsh are nice people, but not welsh speakers, the welsh speakers i've come across are rude arrogant tossers (probably cos i come over them lol!! (that was a joke by the way))

Hey, you shouldn't judge us all on the actions of one man.:(

Imagine if Tony Blair had been your teacher; what would that make you think of the English?;)

My Grandad was a Welshman and he was absolutely lovely so I might be a bit biased :D
I've got tapes of us talking and singing from when I was 5 and hearing the lilt in his accent always makes me smile, even now.

It's a beautiful place aswell.

I only know one Welsh word - "cwtch" but what a lovely word it is!
Cwtches all round! :)

My mums side of the family are Welsh.

Theres nowt wrong with the Welsh and Wales. I liked the way they burned English peoples holiday cottages and second homes years back - thats exactly what the tossers deserved.

Edit - they are from monmouthshire and i hear that is not proper Wales lol!

I was born in Monmouthshire, which became Gwent and dog knows what it is now! I'm 100% 'proper' Welsh on both sides of my family. :)

I am Welsh largejack and I'm glad to know you had a lovely holiday in the land of my birth. Do you mean Colwyn Bay in the north? I was born in the south but lived in Rhuthin, Clwyd for a couple of years and can also vouch for the friendliness and helpfulness of the people.

The Welsh, in my experience, are generally open and friendly unless given cause not to be. :D

you should have gone to lovely llangollen instead - not biased of anything!

when i was 14 and moved from the east coast to wales the pace of life slowed down - there was no trying to look cool or strong - i would never go back now! :)

Yes Colwyn bay, east of Llandudno and west of prestatyn. Paid a visit to Baumaris in Anglesea, lovely place, and now back in miserable Teesside, north east england.

Yes you're probably right there, and that's how it should be.

Unfortunately you and Henryv have together demonstrated both sides of an "opposame".:(
