I have to travel to India for business in two weeks and my employer is recommending vaccines. Such as Hep A, Hep B, Polio, and Typhoid.

I am staying at a 5 star hotel and the office I will be visiting is in a major city/industrial park. I do not see any reason I would need these vaccines.

I appreciate your inputs and expertise.

Thanks everyone.

Well honestly noone here can tell you what you should do about your own health and body. It is your decision. How can anyone tell you to do it or not? Then if something goes wrong with either the vaccine or because you haven't taken it, you could blame anyone who said anything. I think there's plenty of info out there and that you should decide on your own. :)

Just look into what they put into a vaccine then decide if you want it. I will never touch a vaccine in my life have a good holiday

Go for homoeopathic inoculations.

Safe as houses. I know here in OZ it is acceptable to have a homoeopathic vaccinations. After all the royal family uses it.

I went to Sri Lanka for 2 weeks last year. Was in a 4 or 5 star hotel, cant remember. I didn't have any vacinations and was fine. Its worth looking into the illnesses which these vaccinations protect you from. Consider the risks, the strength of the potential illnesses, what other cures, prevention can be used and so on.
I was willing to take the risk of not having any jabs. I knew what risks I was taking mainly hep and marlaria if I remember correctly. Just watch what you eat and drink. Avoid sea food, salads and drinking water from an unknown source. Stick to bottled water.

I turned out fine. Had a slight tummy upset for a day or two but so did the vaccinated people in my group. A tour guide gave me some ayurvedic medicine. This worked a treat :)

But like the others have said, its your decision. Have a great time! :)

Going India also its not compulsory so I am thinking I wont bother.

Does anyone know any research thats been done into travel vaccines?

I assume they all contain mercury, but are there other methods to protect yourself

Well I guess it's no surprise that I'll go with "get vaccinated". Depending on where you're going especially there could be a lot of foot traffic (a lot of virus' love to travel in congested crowds).

The dangers of thimerosal have been investigated and not found to be real.

Homeopathic vaccines just...well...don't work at all. I'm sure they're very safe in that way that a treatment with no active ingredients tends to be.

Even just from a pragmatic standpoint, customs may not be too happy letting an unvaccinated person who's been to India back into the country without a struggle...

If you're not going to be wallowing around in the sewers and buying just any old food and water from the street vendors then I would not bother. In that case the risk of the vaccines is worse than the potential to catch something. Multiply that by the unpredictable and undocumented effectiveness of the vaccines to begin with.

Don't shake hands with people you don't know, and drink bottled water. You'll be fine.

IMO, when it comes to vaccines today, Thimerosol is the least of our problems, unless you're an infant. The safety watchdogs that used to be in place to protect us from bad vaccines or fraud have been compromised by greed, special interests, and govt corruption. Knowing that, why would I let some dude in a white lab coat or green nurse's smock inject syringes full of unidentifiable chemicals into my bloodstream?

Stick to bottled water.

I want to say something about bottled water. In some places, the bottled water is not clean and just put in bottles by unscrupulous business people who are maybe starving and want to make money to survive, or just greedy.

Make sure you open the bottles yourself. It's serious business. Be careful.

FWIW, I had hepatitis series and it gave me peace of mind. That was years ago. I don't know what decision I would make today.

Vaccines are far more dangerous than any of the diseases they CLAIM to protect you from:
