View Full Version : Authority & Secret Governments

Authority is essentially only rules and regulations. It is not a person who has authority. The authority is in the laws and regulations. For example a policeman or policewoman only has the authority the laws and regulations specify.
Yet this is not the case when it comes to secret governments. Not only are secret organizations notoriously hierarchical and managed by fear in a strict power-over pyramid. Those 'above' other members in the organization have the authority to do whatever the want, with no or very little chance of being caught by the open society. So in secret governments, authority has a different meaning than in the open society. This can, and often does, lead to a runaway expansion of dictatorial and in many cases even tyrannical use of power.

Peoples reaction to authority, through obeidience is a massive part of it.
Milgram did an experiment back in the 60's to test how far peopole would go to obey....even if it went against their conscious.

Yes, it's like an unhealthy outsourcing of responsibility. When outsourcing responsibility we still are responsible to make sure that those who we have outsourced responsibility to do not behave in immoral ways.

I didn't mean to take credit for finding the video. I used it as an example. My important point was the distinction between authority in open society based on law and the lawless authority in secret organizations (and in criminal organizations such as the mafia). But that requires healthy laws. If the laws are written in a way that allows the government to legally use immoral authority, then that is an Orwellian society.
