Even by Washington scandal standards, the "terrorism futures" scandal was strange and dramatic.
It started when two senators discovered an obscure military program designed to gauge the chances of various geopolitical developments, including terrorist attacks, by asking people to bet money on them. Within 48 hours -- or, more precisely, two news cycles -- the program was canceled and the man behind it, John Poindexter of Iran-contra fame, had tendered his resignation.


What most people don't know is that the Department of Defense is already funding a research program with far creepier implications.
The $24 million enterprise called Brain Machine Interfaces is developing technology that promises to directly read thoughts from a living brain -- and even instill thoughts as well.


The research, some of which is being done at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is already surprisingly advanced. Monkeys in a laboratory can control the movement of a robotic arm using only their thoughts. And last year scientists in New York announced they could control the skittering motions of a rat by implanting electrodes in its brain, steering it around the lab floor as if it were a radio-controlled toy car.


It does not take much imagination to see in this the makings of a "Matrix"-like cyberpunk dystopia: chips that impose false memories, machines that scan for wayward thoughts, cognitively augmented government security forces that impose a ruthless order on a recalcitrant population.
It is one thing to propose a tasteless market for gambling on terrorism. It is quite another to set some of the nation's top neuroscientists to work on mind control.


But though they differ in degree, the Brain Machine Interface program and the terrorism futures market share many features. They are shocking. They are bizarre. And they are far more worthy of taxpayer money than at first they seem.


The terrorism futures idea, the subject of near hysterical media coverage, is rooted in well-established economic principles. The Brain Machine Interface program, which may well be next in the spotlight, could offer help to the paralyzed and is no more likely to bring about a virtual police state than technologies that already are available.

With Congress clamoring for much stricter oversight of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), which funds both programs, the episode is less a drama of Poindexter and a band of mad bureaucrats than it is a reminder of how important it is for the government to spend some of its resources on the outlandish. Money from DARPA and other small government agencies, such as the Office of Naval Research, has produced profound scientific advances, Nobel Prizes, and technologies -- such as the Internet -- that have changed the world.


"It is important to have horizons longer than three years and the chance to try out bold ideas," said Tomaso Poggio, one of the MIT scientists involved in Brain Machine Interfaces. More traditional funding agencies can be so conservative, Poggio said, that "people sometimes joke that you have to have done the experiment before you can write the proposal."
Like the futures market, the Brain Machine Interface program grew out of DARPA's long involvement in information processing.

DARPA is the successor to ARPA, an office that was created in 1958, in the wake of Sputnik, to push forward scientific research with potential military applications. ARPA laid the foundation for what is today the Internet, and also contributed to a wide variety of computer applications currently in use.

DARPA's brain-machine work, which is unclassified and eventually will be published in scientific journals, attracts scientists because it explores some of the central questions in neuroscience, such as the nature of consciousness and memory, and the neural code the brain uses to store and process information

Yup... I believe this study, research and development is based on even older experiments though. Might be neural processors being produced somewhere. I just havent found any exact location yet. The articles released are usually not about "new" technology. Mostly about stuff that is made good, safe and welltested enough for the public to see and know about... I think.

I wonder if this thing could help map abilities like telepathy and telekinesis. So far the scanners I have known of have only been able to read what part of the brain is active. Not the kind of energy or strength in the neuro-networks, or what the names are. The brain is quite beautifull and complex. Seems like work a bit like a biocomputer with quite fascinating potential of "processing power". Hooking up to a machine that way might be dangerous though. Especially if it sends impulses back.

Well this report is from 2003, other suff I searched for, more recent articles seem to say more or less the same thing. Yes they can read images from scans, but how accurate are these readings? Even the scientist disagree how effective the readings are, and if they can be used by the law to prove or disprove lies in legal cases. Of course there will be secret experiments, research, and were not meant to know how advanced it is. This is the information we need!

I read it goes as far back as 1958 officially, experiments were carried out in the early 70's to do with telepathy, pyscokenesis.

Same people who invented the Internet are working on these technolgies. This is to do with interfacing the human brain (mind) body with computers.
So they can directly influence you from there computers while you're sat at home infront of you're PC! As far as I'm aware (hopefully ) so far they have to get you microchipped before this can happen lol that's the good news, there's hope yet. :)

The bad news booh. :rolleyes: What I can say is true as many of you must have read recently, that the microchips are so tiny, size of a ( particle of sand even? ) Just think how many ways they could get these chips inside us without our knowledge or consent:eek:

The argument against this may be, there to small and the body would reject, disperse, excrete them or they couldn't give out or receive signals. Now this is theory here> What if these tiny chips all work together once in the body to create a network and were made to grow into cells or human tissue, bio engineering or is it bio electrical engineering meaning: combining electrical equipment with living human tissue. Even if these tiny chips had a limited lifespan, it would be easy for them to introduce new, fresh chips via food, water, airborne particles.

I am one of tthose being tortured by the US Government with Electromagnetic and Neurological Weapons and there are others. I have been completely "STRIPPED OF PRIVACY" and experience "EXCRUTIATING TORTURE" and this is all done remotely by the US Government. These weapons also deliver radiation into the target's body.

I and others are being attacked with Directed Energy Non Lethal Electromagnetic and Neurological Weapons . These weapons include the use of Radio waves, Microwaves, acoustic weapons and other energy forms. Microwaves and Radio Waves are used to access someone's brain to listen to their thoughts (Remote Neural Monitoring). I am being tortured with Microwaves, Radio Waves and much more because I and others are trying to make this information public.

The technology used to deliver these attacks does not require an attacker to face you, it is all done remotely and without our consent. Our bodies have unique brainwaves/signatures. The Government can lock onto us like a plane locks onto a target. These cowards don't even have the guts to face those of us they attack and torture.

This technology allows the government to target the auditory center of a person’s brain to speak to them directly, bypassing the ears. This is done primarily as entrainment delivering mind control repetitive statements and subliminal messages. They can do the same with vision; they can see what I see by accessing the visual part of my cortex. That means nothing is private like taking a shower, using an ATM machine, making out checks to pay bills, conversations with family and friends - they see the people I speak to - their privacy is also robbed for they can hear those conversations by accessing my brain. Hmmm... I guess I might have been targetted with stuff like this as well. Sometimes I simply move my head a bit to annoy them, and try to make it look like somewhat casual moving of course :)

Maybe finding another place to sit or stand could help annoy them as well I think. I try to make the best of it when I have people after me, who wants to know more about me. Since I have been stupid enough to show others what I can do, I guess it can only be expected that I will have people that comes to meet me or sometimes spy on me for whatever reasons.

At least most of them do have the decency not to use technology like this, and if they do, I have quite a few ways of getting back at them ;)
