Crash at Polish air show kills 2 pilots

WARSAW (AP) — A Belarusian fighter jet crashed Sunday during an air show in central Poland, killing both pilots, officials said.

The two-seat Su-27 jet was performing maneuvers at the festival in Radom, 65 miles south of Warsaw, when it went down.

Two Belarusian pilots on board were killed in the crash, the air show's organizers said in a statement. The cause of the crash was under investigation.

The Su-27 was not near the tarmac or crowds attending the air show when it crashed.

Footage broadcast on state television showed the plane turning in the air, then dropping behind trees. A cloud of black smoke then appeared on the horizon.

The jet was one of two Belarusian planes taking part in the show, said Andrzej Sikorski, a spokesman for Poland's air force. The other aircraft was a transport plane.

I would NEVER go to an air show. The amount of tragic loss of life, seems constant, if it were a sport it'd be banned.

I think there was another show that failed just like this one.

The stunt aircrafts go into stall sometimes, at very dangerous manouvers where they fly at speeds so low that the wings don't provide lift anymore (they fall like a stone) and rely solely on the engines to push them back into flight.

Apparently was at it's low speed threshold and in the descend couldn't get out of stall, quite sad.

All these fighter jets are just toys in wargames anyway, if there was any serious technology allowed today, electromagnetic crafts would be employed not aircrafts, it's ridiculous, as if we hadn't evolved technologically in 100 years.
