When we observe our minds, we are observing like another person. We can call this the lower self, the physical mind.
I have found on so many occasions in my life where "thinking about thinking[what and why was the motivation that inspired this action]", "reflecting about reflecting[what and why was the motivation that inspired this specific thinking]" has proven very beneficial to me. What we (=higher self) are doing then, is becoming aware of our lower self (mind) by observing it, which breaks the lower-self's control (instantaneously and momentarily), it has over our everyday life and which is a superimposition over our real-, higher-self.
I find it very comparable with waking up in a lucid dream, with only the difference being that the dream in in this case is the matrix of the programmed thoughtforms of the lower-self.
We can take control back over our lives and it's direction by realizing the disconnection between us and the lower-self. The more we persist in "thinking about thinking" and "reflecting about reflecting", I believe the more we can take back control and eradicate programming that we don't want to have.
Remember the mind is tricky, a true master of deception. It will use it's entire box of magic tricks hoping to make you execute it's programming. Do never (posess the arrogance to) automatically assume or take it for granted that YOU, the higher self are in control - *right now*, because then you have just allowed the mind to take control over you.
This is just an instant-reflection I wanted to put down to word. I hope you gain from this. Take your time and read it over and over, if you feel necessary.

your post does not make sense, just confusion
taking back control is doing what you feel you have to do, but not what outside influences wants you to do and think is right.
every experience has a meaning to it and a purpose, your life will be is what you want it to be, but... for it to be good- you have to feel good, so to feel good you have to firstly look good, and be healthy meaning :
no drink, no drugs, healthy life style - that's make you better than others, and when you are better then others- it gives you power over others

The mind is what seperates us from every other creature on the earth.
To separate the two would possibly create an entirley different entity.
I like to think im enlightened I still cant imagine being that different "entity"

this is a very good thread !
it is very true that when we think ------about why we think certain thoughts --------------we can gain tremendouse control over our lives .
this type of tactic also helps us see ---------why others keep doing the same things day in day out --------yearafter year ------decade after decade , we can also see then -----------why it is that some never have control over their own life or destiny .
this is a very good post .

Heh, I think I'll have to. In a few days, as I'm in a terrible mood right now; maybe I'll grasp it, then. :D

it's very difficult to separate from this, firstly because some people are not quite aware of the ego as a separate distracting entity, and secondly because so many people are sucked into the ego it feeds feeds of other ego's and thirdly, because the ego is also a policing mechanism.

I think it's about getting into as much of a meditive state in your daily life as you can, and you can do that by seeing that the sounds that your hear and the noise in your head (thought chatter) are pretty much one and the same and that you are the observer of it all.
we are that silence between our thoughts, not the thoughts themselves. your best keeping your mind as uncluttered as you can.
It helps me anyhow, it's hard to explain in words.

Thank you so much for that.
What you wrote there is something I tried to describe in my other thread about letting go of our lower selves grasp.
I have only very recently discovered how to do what you described here and I've been blown away by it's significance, how much mental suffering it alleviates. This is not the old fashioned "meditation" itself but a kind of letting-go-meditation that brings this altered-state into being almost permanently for the rest of the day, depending on how much effort we spend (it doesn't really cost much effort, training to learn to let go is the actual effort!)
It takes just a few minutes for me to activate and then a huge stone is lifted from my head. It feels much like a drug-high(especially cannabis) but without all the adverse side-effects like loss of coordination and recall etc.
It is a huge key to eliminate a major portion of our suffering of the mental and spiritual kind. It is such a liberating state of mind that can be so simply activated by command, however the mind seems to try and trick us out of it. Not focusing on the misleading thoughtforms is essential in order to not be mislead by the mind.

So very true! It's hard at times, the whirlwind of thought chatter can fill us up with so much doubt that we operate at a very low level of ourselves. It's almost like trying to be ZEN as much as you can, so you're fully hardwired to the awe-inspiring streams of synchromysticism and there's no delay in making the right decision.

I agree completely, it is not letting thoughts linger or become rigid, but feeling your mental process like a sea or the wind, constantly flowing and mutable. I believe this self induced feeling/visualization helps release fixed thought patterns that serve no purpose, which always seem to a habit of the ego.
Re; xpleet - 'The more we persist in "thinking about thinking" and "reflecting about reflecting", I believe the more we can take back control and eradicate programming that we don't want to have.'
I disagree with this, although an interesting thought exercise, that is the extent of it.
To take back control is to realise the egos ways, patterns, and see it in others also, and your reaction, which is not very natural and seems like something weve seen done and fell into. As you said 'the programming we dont want to have'.
An awareness of the laws of nature, im not talking in depth science im talking about appreciating anything that creation manifests, seeing 'negative' events or things as lessons to be learnt from that will take you on your next step and give you true maturity and further understanding of the laws. Loving yourself others and everything for what it is regardless of what weve been conditioned to think of as 'good' or 'bad'. Changing your entire perception, essentially. Knowing and seeing theres a greater force at work, and its so obvious its like taking the blindfold off.
